UPDATE 😔 I guess I jumped the gun on my update. Now they called and said his rumen isn’t working.  So they are going to perform a procedure where they take rumen from a cow and they tube it into Buddy’s belly to try to activate his rumen.  Unfortunately this means probably three more days in the hospital because it has to be done three times. Also testing for two more goat viruses. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Good News on Buddy!

NO SIGNS of CANCER OR A MASS!!! Thank God- I couldn’t stand to lose another to that so soon.

It’s a bit of a mystery, so maybe viral or tick borne- the outlier is meningitis - but we opted not to do a spinal tap. He’s on IV antibiotics and will receive more for a couple of weeks here at home.

We are cautiously optimistic! Should come home late tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the check in’s and well wishes! I met Buddy moments after he was born and brought him home 2 days later. He’s a special boy. He’ll be 9 in November.

Update: midnight update was a high fever but not anemic (so not parasites); FAMACHA score good (a general health score for goats based on appearance) -extensive bloodwork this morning when the lab opens and scans.

Praying it’s an abscess or infection and not a mass.

Why is it always my favorites? He was down under the shelf in the barn and is on his way to the emergency animal hospital in New Bolton, PA.

He’s one of the OG’s- Eddie came first and Buddy followed two days later. He’s the most gentle of all of them and the largest. 😔

RIP Stella 🐓❤️

This family was here a couple of months ago and fell in love with the last of our Covid flock of chickens. They named her Stella ❤️

Stella passed away yesterday at about 6 years old of natural causes. She was the only one currently that would let you carry her around. She was my second oldest hen.

This has not been a great summer on the farm! 🌈

So many emotions bouncing off of one another. Our sweet boy Maverick🐮 has made his move to where he will be called Rick 🐮. This has been a hard month. Gracie 🐮🌈 left us on July 9th, so unexpectedly, and now our Cow Owning Era has come to an end.

In the midst of the sadness is profound gratitude 🙏 for having been chosen to have the honor of caring for these two beautiful beings for about two years. For the outpouring of support and kindness when Gracie died.

For the New Bolton Center in PA never sending me an invoice for Gracies care and euthanasia because they are subsidized for livestock to encourage farming in the area.

Farm life is HARD. Our animals are our pets. We have 15 other farm animals that will each take a piece of our hearts with them one day (not counting dogs, cats, and chickens). There is also the sense of peace 🕊 knowing Maverick is in amazing hands and will receive tons of love, treats, brushings and visitors.

The moment you have livestock you start to form a community. There are so many people who helped us on our journey along the way. Tara and Ron Emley for their cow guidance. Annemarie from Magnolia Farms downtown. Kit & Lyndsey for reaching out to me when Gracie died and helping direct me to rescues; and of course where Maverick got his start.

Gracie and Maverick brought us new friendships, brought joy to many people and children, and lit up the neighborhood. Check out Mavericks new homecoming

The emotions are real…I’m profoundly grateful to Howard and Debbie at Muddy Paws Farm Rescue for opening their hearts to Maverick (soon to be Rick 🐮) but I’m also in tears 😭 typing this post.

We love our big sweet guy, but as I said when Gracie 🐮 first arrived, “our cow needs a cow” and we are not in a position to bring in a new cow at this time.

I’m sharing their current fundraiser here because he needs safety and a shelter before we make this big move.

I’m so sad over this entire turn of events - we never imagined being in this position, but I feel great relief knowing how loved he will be, and that he has a future friend in Wasabi! 🐄

Our sweet girl had a massive tumor in her chest. Most likely lymphoma.

It doesn’t ease the pain but it does ease the guilt and second guessing.

I met her at yoga and little felt like I HAD TO HAVE HER. What an incredible blessing that we got to experience her very short but special life?

She made many children (and adults) very happy. She made many events special. She was our daily dose of sunshine racing across the paddock.

This little bit of closure helps.
