Ep141 On this segment of Backstage Pass with Lia Chang, I’m taking you inside the Ribbon Cutting for the first permanent home for Woodie King, Jr.’s New Federal Theatre. New York State Senator Erik Bottcher, who found and advocated for New Federal Theatre’s permanent home at 154 Christopher, cut the Ribbon. Speakers included New Federal Theatre’s Artistic Director Elizabeth Van D**e, New York State Senator Erik Bottcher, Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Council Member Carl Wilson, and Ddiya Vij, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. Tony, Grammy and Emmy winning Broadway legend and Icon André De Shields, an alum of New Federal Theatre, led the room with a rousing rendition of Lift Every Voice and Sing, before the official ribbon cutting.
