With Media Welcome to the Official Page of [with]Media, a media company by and for people with disabilities! Visit www.with-media.org/ to learn more! Some will, some won't.

[with]Media is a streaming media company of, by, and for people with disabilities...and everyone else! We are committed to a workforce where at least 28% are people with a disability in front of and behind the camera, in all areas and at all levels of management! We broadcast from a disability perspective. Our viewership, our market is the community of people with disabilities, viewers without dis

abilities, drawn to our stories because of our unique perspective and those businesses and non profits that wish sell us their goods and express their support of our societal mission. After all, if we are honest, content like Ray, Born On The 4th of July, Coming Home, Million Dollar Baby, Life Goes On, Switched at Birth, Ironsides, Radio, Rainman that constantly garner industry awards were made for non-disabled viewers. Many of them were not captioned or described and theaters were not accessible until federal Laws for which we struggled, mandated it. Not all shows will have disability themes. All content and all advertising will be captioned and described by our own employees. All content will be created by people with disabilities (at least 28% of our workforce) and their non-disabled peers employed along side of them. We will establish a permanent media home for training, employment leading to on-going sustainable careers for people with disabilities, family, friends and those who wish to work with us. We are a 501 c 3 not for profit, so it will encourage companies to advertise with us to address our market needs and the market needs of those without a disability who are drawn to our stories. We are not asking others to hire us. We are not telling others how to portray us. We are creating opportunity in an industry that has denied it. We are competing. We are [with]tv.

Something to remember this Labor Day.

Did you know that disabled people experience higher rates of unemployment than nondisabled people? At a rate of nearly 13% in 2020, disabled people faced their highest unemployment rate for their group in seven years. And thatโ€™s also nearly 5% higher than the nondisabled unemployment rate.

Because today is Labor Day, we want to highlight a few noteworthy pieces of 2020 data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

-Across all age groups, people with disabilities were much less likely to be employed than those with no disabilities.
-Across all educational levels, unemployment rates for disabled people were higher than those for nondisabled people.
-80% of disabled people didnโ€™t participate in the labor force in 2020 compared to 30% of nondisabled people.
-In 2020, 29% of workers with a disability were employed part-time, compared with 16% for those with no disability.
-Employed disabled people were more likely to be self-employed than nondisabled people.

At the Paralympics opening ceremonies, volunteers carried the Afghan flag in the parade of nations after it was originally announced that the two athletes from Afghanistan would be unable to attend the Games in Tokyo due to the Taliban's takeover of the country.

But last week, sprinter Hossain Raouli and taekwondo qualifier Zakia Khudadadi traveled from Kabul, Afghanistan to Paris, France thanks to a global effort that led to their safe evacuation. The athletes were then able to travel to Tokyo and gracefully fulfill their dream of competing in the Paralympic Games.

This triumph brought both a sense of hope to the people of Afghanistan and joy to the young athletes who have been looking forward to the Paralympics for many years. This made Khudadadi the first woman to take part in the Paralympics for Afghanistan since the 2004 Games in Athens, and Raoili was able to compete the long jump finals.

Did you know? There are two sports that are completely unique to the .

1. Goalball: Goalball is a sport specifically for visually impaired athletes. Two teams of three try and throw or roll the ball into the other teamโ€™s net. All athletes wear eyeshades that completely block out their sight to ensure all players have the same level of vision. The ball contains bells so that players can only hear the ball coming.

2. Boccia: In Boccia, players throw or roll colored balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the โ€œjack.โ€ The player, pair or team with the most balls near the jack is the winner. The sport is designed for athletes with disabilities such as cerebral palsy and other neurological disabilities. Some players use assistive devices such as ramps, pointers or even use their feet to "throw" the ball.

While we celebrate the amazing atletes competing in the Paralympics this year, we cannot forget about those who should be there. Becca Meyers, a deaf-blind swimmer has been a two time paralympian for Team USA, competing in a variety of events ranging from the 400 m Freestyle to the 100 m Breastroke.

After competing in the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics, Meyers was looking forward to competing in Tokyo until the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee refused to allow Meyers to travel with her mother as a trusted personal care assistant. This caused her to make the difficult decision to withdraw from the games. People with disabilities should never have to be denied essential accomodations, yet this exclusion happens even at the Paralympics.

She revealed the reasoning behind this decision in a statement on her social media, saying she hopes by speaking up, future generations of Paralympians won't have to experience this pain. Enough is enough.
