The 48-year-old actor and Connecticut native announced in November 2024 that he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.

All of the proceeds from the items auctioned off will go toward Van Der Beek's medical costs, according to People.

"While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore's auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years," Van Der Beek told People.

For some students at the High School in the Community, it has become normal to spend part of science class carrying large water jugs to a shipping container outside by the school’s parking lot.

Inside the 40-foot container, the school’s own mushroom farm, the students use the water to help control humidity in an area where they grow blue oyster and lion’s mane mushrooms.

While the smell of the earth wafts through space, the students check temperature, carbon dioxide levels and more to ensure the mushrooms will grow healthily.

“It’s a lot like the International Space Station,” the school’s principal said. “It’s more high tech than I think people realize.”
