A Day at CM Farms
“There’s a huge disconnect with adults and children — with agriculture and animals and where their food comes from — and so we thought maybe we can make that connection.”
🐐🐑🐓
When Jackie and Chuck Melsheimer opened CM Farms in 2009, they never imagined how far it would grow from its early days in Reeves to its thriving home in Dry Creek, built around community, family, and fun. Inspired by a growers’ conference and a simple idea to reconnect people with agriculture, the farm quickly evolved from a small fall attraction into a year-round destination filled with seasonal events, family-friendly activities, and ever-expanding offerings. Today, CM Farms features everything from a massive themed corn maze and hands-on play areas to on-site food, sweet treats, and spaces designed for families to unplug and spend time together. Now run alongside their grown children, CM Farms remains, at its heart, a true family farm rooted in togetherness, tradition, and joy.

Bake Me Happy
“What started as a silly experiment turned into something that truly made me and the people around me happy.”

Chrislyn Lima’s sourdough journey started as a quiet, flour-dusted escape in 2023, and quickly turned into something much bigger (and tastier). What began as a newlywed’s creative outlet soon revealed itself as a calling, as friends and family fell in love with her bread and encouraged her to share it beyond her own kitchen. Today, her microbakery, Bake Me Happy, lives up to its punny name with rotating weekly menus of artisan sourdough loaves, pastries, rolls, and seasonal treats, all made without preservatives and packed with heart. Backed by a supportive Delcambre community and her husband, Josue — the behind-the-scenes MVP — Lima keeps things simple, joyful, and true to her favorite mantra: always bake anyway.

Twinkle & Trim Co. 🎄

For Ronni Gachassin Russo, decorating Christmas trees isn’t a once-a-year tradition, it’s an entire season of sparkle that stretches from St. Martinville living rooms to towering commercial displays. What began with a friend’s tips and a few online posts quickly snowballed into Twinkle & Trim, a thriving side business she now juggles alongside her real estate career. This year, she’s expanding even further by selling décor through Emily Katherine boutiques and offering clients the chance to buy pieces directly from her, all while maintaining her signature ribbon-rich, textured style. Though scheduling remains her biggest challenge, Russo continues to make holiday magic for families and businesses alike, proving that with enough ribbon, creativity, and heart, every tree can shine.

Toast of the Town // Lizzie’s
🥂
Downtown New Iberia’s beloved restaurant and bakery, Lizzie’s, takes the spotlight in this month’s Dining Profile. And while the pastries steal hearts, it’s the cocktails that truly stir the soul. Behind the bar, Manager/ Mixologist Kyle Gonzales is shaking up the classics and spinning them with a wink, a twist, and a dash of Southern charm. Whether you crave something bold and brooding, bright and citrusy, or smooth with a secret, Lizzie’s handcrafted cocktails are where flavor meets personality. Here’s what Kyle’s pouring; each sip a story, each glass a reason to toast to the town.

Dining Profile // Lizzie’s
“Lizzie’s is pretty close to the original concept. At first, we wanted to do a more casual café. It evolved into a pastry shop by day and dinner at night,” — Elizabeth Shensky Hansen

Walking into Lizzie’s feels like stepping into a dream—part cozy grandmother’s kitchen, part whimsical wonderland—glowing with nostalgia and warmth before you’ve even taken a seat. New Iberia native Elizabeth Shensky Hansen and her husband, chef Erik Hansen, brought their vision to life after years of experience in New York, Cape Cod, and Boston, crafting a space where comfort meets creativity. By day, Lizzie’s is a pastry paradise with croissants so delicate they seem unreal; by night, it transforms into a dinner spot and cocktail haven where dishes like arancini and steak frites steal the show. With a growing lunch menu and plans for Sunday brunch, Lizzie’s has become a community favorite—proof that great food, shared warmly, always feels like home.

The Backward Hat
“That’s the thing with The Backwards Hat—there is no one signature look. We cover it all.”
Opening a men’s clothing store wasn’t part of Frankie and Dayna Provost’s plan, but a joke with a friend planted the idea that wouldn’t let go. While driving to a Morgan Wallen concert, Frankie started wondering if a men’s store in New Iberia could really work—and ninety-nine days later, The Backwards Hat opened its doors. Designed with a laid-back, “mancave-inspired” feel, the shop offers versatile, Southern-inspired styles from brands like Southern Shirt Co., Chubbies, and Baseballism, giving men and boys a place to shop and hang out. The community’s support has been overwhelming, and for Frankie and Dayna, The Backwards Hat is about more than clothes—it’s about creating something new, needed, and proudly local.
