Join the New Orleans Jazz Museum for Prime Examples of Excellence in Music on Thursday, June 17, at 5PM CDT. Curated by accomplished composer, jazz pianist, and educator Jesse McBride, Prime Examples of Excellence in Music will pay tribute to the legacy of the Prime Example Jazz Club, which closed in 2020. This series will feature musical arrangements by McBride, highlighting up-and-coming contemporary jazz musicians performing alongside veteran musicians. Performers for this concert include Andrew Baham on trumpet with Jesse McBride on piano, Amina Scott on bass, and Thomas Glass on drums.
Public gathering spaces are a vital asset to New Orleans, and the Prime Example Jazz Club was no exception. As one of the few remaining true contemporary jazz clubs in New Orleans, the Prime Example was a champion of New Orleans jazz artists, and a space that fostered a sense of community. It was a space where young artists could learn the foundations of Black music, and one of the only spaces where you could hear modern jazz on a consistent basis.
Performances are free and open to the public. Bring your chair or blanket to enjoy a socially distanced performance in our courtyard! Viewers can enjoy this performance from home on facebook.com/nolajazzmuseum/live.
