Third Coast Weather

Third Coast Weather A lighter take on weather along the Gulf Coast from the comfy confines of NOLA. PSU Meteorology Grad.

6pm GFS model for Monday September 19th has decided to scare the entire Gulf Coast with it showing a Category 4 storm by September 29th.

Not a forecast, just a model run, but the Euro model this afternoon is pretty much exactly lined up with it (which is pretty gosh darn rare this far out), so we definitely need to watch this one.

Stay sexy.

Good news for people that like good news!!

Latest models have the Bermuda High pushing west over the coming days, so that Low pressure system in the Caribbean (marked in red) may NOT be able to move north once it makes it to the Gulf of Mexico… may get rain in Texas and Louisiana, but NO LANDFALLING HURRICANES!

Let’s think all of the happy thoughts that this forecast holds. 🤞🏻🙏🏻🦆

The last 4 GFS model runs all in one place for your viewing pleasure. Western Gulf of Mexico seems to be the desired vacation destination of whatever forms… nothing set in stone.

The ICON weather model is indicating the closest invest in the Atlantic to us is going to hit wind shear/dry air, dissipate, and then reappear in the Caribbean in about 5 days… from there the models start to scatter it with many showing it entering the Gulf of Mexico in about 6-7 days. This would be the storm that models over a week ago were eluding to possibly forming… still time to watch it, and the conditions may be too hostile for it to survive the next few days anyways…

Stay sexy!

We have a new storm to watch for in the Atlantic, as invest will move through the tropical Atlantic over the next 5-6 days.

During that time, factors such as dry air, wind shear (TUTT) and overall organization/structure could hamper development.

Beyond that time frame, there remains many uncertainties about strength and location. Conditions could be favorable for development in the Caribbean if it can last that long…

7pm GFS model update starts off fairly calm, but then goes off the rails… pretty sure the models are sniffing glue as of late, so I’m going to give this less than a 1% chance of happening.

Happy Friday!

Models for late next week showing a 25-30% of seeing a tropical depression or stronger storm in the southern Gulf O’ Mexico, and then entering the Gulf.

Late August/ early September storms are upon us! We will just continue to monitor! Stay sexy!

Things start to get interesting in about 10 days time frame. The ECMWF Op still hasn't shown much, but we are seeing other models on board for the switch to happen towards August 20-25th.

Be ready. Stay sexy.
