This past week, I had the chance to spend some time with Sam Matern and the amazing team at NOMATIC, and once again they reminded me why they are absolute all-stars in my book. 🙌

Their generosity toward Get Out Arizona has always meant a tremendous amount to me. They’ve supported Foto Forum, they’ve supported the work we do, and now they’re also showing support for the young men and women of the Barry Goldwater High School Yearbook and Photo Club.

For a small group like ours, that kind of support means more than people sometimes realize. It helps open doors, gives young creators access to better tools, and reminds them that there are people and companies willing to invest in what they’re doing.

Part two of our one-two punch, my friends: the Sony A7 V + Tamron 50-400mm F/4.5-6.3 VC VXD. 📸🔥

The A7 V is built for speed with its new 33MP partially stacked full-frame sensor, up to 30 fps blackout-free shooting, and Sony’s latest AI-powered autofocus. Translation: if it moves, this camera has a very good chance of finding it before you do. 😂

Then you bolt on the Tamron 50-400, and suddenly you’ve got everything from a normal 50mm view to serious 400mm reach in one lens. Add VXD autofocus, VC stabilization, moisture-resistant construction, and a fluorine-coated front element, and this becomes one seriously capable outdoor setup.

Wildlife, sports, travel, events, details across the street you’re too lazy to walk toward — this combo is ready. 😎

The A7R VI + 35-150 handles the high-resolution side of the equation. The A7 V + 50-400 brings the speed and reach. That’s one heck of a one-two punch.

Alright, my friends, let’s talk about one seriously ridiculous combination: the Sony A7R VI paired with the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD. 📸🔥

Sony gives you a monster 66.8MP stacked full-frame sensor, incredible autofocus, and up to 30 fps shooting. Then Tamron shows up with a fast f/2-2.8 zoom covering everything from 35mm street work to 85mm portraits and all the way out to 150mm.
Translation? One body. One lens. A ridiculous amount of capability.

Street photography, portraits, weddings, events, travel, documentary work, this setup basically looks at your camera bag and says, “You can leave half of that crap at home.” 😂

The Tamron’s VXD autofocus is quick and quiet, the fast aperture gives you gorgeous subject separation, and the A7R VI gives you enough resolution to crop like you made a questionable composition decision and would rather nobody know about it. 😎

Is the lens tiny? Absolutely not. At about 1,165g, you’ll know it’s there. But considering the focal range and performance, I’ll happily pay the weight penalty.

This is the kind of combination that lets you stop thinking about gear and start concentrating on the story in front of you.

Alright, my friends, the Moment gear is officially starting to stretch its legs. 😎📱🎥

This little slow pull-out gives you a quick look at some of the goodies they sent Reid to test: the cases, the lenses, and most importantly, the SuperCage.

And let me tell you, that SuperCage is no joke. It’s built like a proper mobile filmmaking rig, with plenty of mounting options and an integrated USB-C hub so you can start hanging storage, power, audio, lights, and all the other little things creators somehow convince themselves are “absolutely necessary.” 😂

The cases and lenses are just as interesting, especially if you’re serious about squeezing more out of your iPhone without dragging a full cinema rig everywhere you go.

Official Day One of the Tour de Force is in the books, my friends. 🚴‍♂️📸

Today’s ride started in the heart of New York City near Ground Zero and took us through the city out to Long Island, approximately 67 miles, including a grueling 18 miles just to get out of the city. Because apparently New York wanted everyone to earn their breakfast, lunch, dinner, and emotional support snacks.

It was a long day for everyone involved, and as always, my hat is off to the men and women on the bikes, pedaling their booties off. My job is easy compared to what these riders go through over four days.

For those unfamiliar, the Tour de Force is a 9/11 memorial bike ride honoring those we lost and supporting the families and communities connected to that sacrifice. This year is especially meaningful as the ride marks its 25th anniversary.

Here are a few photos from the city and some of the riders. I’ll do a fuller post later explaining what the Tour de Force is and a full write-up when I get back to the Valley.

For now, stay tuned for more updates today as I attempt to stay ahead of the social media curve… which, historically speaking, is a bold and hilarious goal. 😂

Good morning, my friends. Here’s a little outtake from a recent video Reid and I shot, featuring one of the most important pieces of gear in my kit: my ceramic Little Mermaid coffee cup. ☕️🧜‍♀️

This is my coffee cup. There are many like it, but this one is mine. Without my coffee cup, I am nothing. Without me, my coffee cup is, probably still holding yesterday’s coffee. 😂

And yes, I did say it is my favorite coffee cup. That part is absolutely true.

I also said I never wash it because that’s where all the flavor is. Also true. 😅

Some people season cast iron. I season ceramic. It’s called commitment. It’s called character. It’s called “please don’t look too closely inside the mug.” 🤣

Sometimes the best parts of filming are the moments that don’t make the final cut, the laughs, the nonsense, the questionable life choices, and the realization that maybe, just maybe, coffee is the real production assistant.

Time-lapse time, my friends. 📱🎥

This one was shot at the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, and honestly, time lapses have become almost too easy these days, especially when you’re using an iPhone with the Blackmagic Camera app.

Being able to set your shutter angle, adjust your white balance, and dial in the look as the scene changes makes capturing a solid time lapse way less painful than it used to be. I’m not saying technology is spoiling us, but I’m also not saying it. 😂

And here’s your tiny history nugget: Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse, also known as Tarrytown Lighthouse or Kingsland Point Lighthouse, was built in the 1880s to help guide ships along the Hudson River and keep them away from dangerous shoals. So yes, it looks cool, but it also had a real job before becoming ridiculously photogenic.

So if you have an iPhone, the Blackmagic Camera app, and a couple of key accessories, namely a sturdy tripod and a solid cage, you can capture some great time-lapse footage of your favorite places too.

Just remember: steady camera, good composition, and maybe don’t set up where people are actively trying to walk. Apparently sidewalks are for pedestrians. Weird rule, but here we are. 😅

Day three of this working adventure, my friends. 🚗📸

We drove down from Connecticut into New York, got settled into the hotel, and somehow managed to find a lighthouse nearby. Now remember, I live in the desert. We don’t have lighthouses. We have cactus, rocks, and things that want to stab you. 😂

So Diane has always made it a point to take me to at least one lighthouse whenever I’m back east, and this time it was the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse. Here are a couple of iPhone photos from the visit, along with another photo of Diane and me hanging out, because no adventure would be complete without my POC A.K.A. “My Sister From Another Mister.”

And I say this with all honesty and humility: cherish the moments you have with your loved ones. Friends, family, friends who become family, each one of them is precious and should be treated that way.

I love you guys so much, and I’m continually humbled by the support you give me.
I’ll post a time-lapse a little later today, but now it’s day four, the riders are coming in, and things are about to get Animal House kind of crazy.

Let’s talk about tripods for a second, my friends. 🎥📸

Specifically, let’s talk about how nobody really cares how fast you can deploy one. I certainly don’t. 😂

A tripod popping open in three seconds might look cool in a marketing video, but that doesn’t mean you’re actually framed, leveled, composed, balanced, locked in, and ready to shoot. It just means your tripod had a dramatic entrance.
What I care about is smooth, reliable operation.

I want a tripod that works the same way every single time, doesn’t fight me, doesn’t feel sloppy, and doesn’t make me question my life choices while I’m trying to get the shot.

Day two of the trip, my friends, and as these things usually go, this was the calm before the upcoming craziness. 😅

I got to hang out with one of my bestest good friends, Diane, as we picked up the rental we’ll be using for the duration of the event. Even better, I got to spend time enjoying some fabulous conversation with her family.

If I’m lucky, I get to see them once a year, so that time means more than I can properly put into words. Some people are family by blood, and some are family because life was kind enough to put them in your path. 🙌

Tomorrow, the adventure really begins as we dip down into New York City in anticipation of the start of Tour de Force 2026. This is a very special year for me, my 10th year with the tour, while they celebrate 25 years. More on that in the days to come.

For now, I hope everyone had an amazing holiday weekend and hopefully took a little time for themselves. I know, I know, I’m one to talk when it comes to slowing down. 😂
