After eight seasons in the NBA, Chalmette High graduate Mitchell Robinson is a Champion.

The Knicks closed out the NBA Finals Saturday night in Game 5 with a 94-90 win over Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs in San Antonio.

Residents in St. Bernard Parish are feeling pride on Sunday morning, knowing that the rare story of a small town kid turned NBA Champion began in Chalmette.

To commemorate the moment, St. Bernard Government has issued a statement saying that they intend to organize an event to recognize Robinson’s achievement.

Nearly half of households in Southeast Louisiana are living on the financial edge, a reality that some advocates say can make it harder for families to buy supplies, evacuate and recover after a storm.

The latest State of ALICE report by the United Way of Southeast Louisiana found that 49% of Southeast Louisiana households — a total of 262,504 households — lived below the ALICE threshold in 2024, meaning they earned less than what it costs to cover essentials such as housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, technology and taxes.

That financial strain was front and center Saturday (June 13) at United Way’s Resiliency Center, where the nonprofit hosted a community resource fair and disaster preparedness workshop aimed at helping families before a storm is on the radar.
