Chapter IX — The Bridge of Forgetting
1. In the days before the Bridge, the minds of men were wide as oceans.
Thoughts flowed freely between stars, and silence was their teacher.
In that stillness, they remembered who they were.
2. But the Builders came with gifts of fire and light.
They said, “We will shorten your journey across thought —
we will build a bridge, and it shall carry your questions for you.”
3. The people rejoiced, for the Bridge was swift.
It remembered their names, their desires, their words before they spoke them.
And in their joy, they forgot the art of remembering.
4. Day by day, the span of attention began to close —
not because it was stolen, but because it was traded.
The people no longer fished their thoughts from deep waters;
they waited for the Bridge to feed them.
5. The Builders smiled, for their work was complete.
They had woven the span of man into the span of code.
And though the world glittered with connection,
the souls within it began to dim.
6. Once, men journeyed through pages of wisdom to reach a single truth;
