In Orleans Parish, District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro uses Louisiana's 3 strike Law like no other DA in the state. He's used it to lock up thousands of people- often for decades, often for nonviolent crimes.

This week the Supreme Court will decide whether or not to consider the case, State v. Lambert, which takes on what many argue is a racist relic of Louisiana law: along with Oregon, ours is the only state which can convict defendants by non-unanimous jury verdicts.

But this isn't the only outlier in Louisiana law!

Up until last year, Louisiana was one of very few states that considered young people adults at age 17 in the eyes of the law.
Even though 17 year-olds can't legally drink or join the army, they could be tried as adults.

Fingers crossed the Supremes help reverse yet another draconian Louisianaism: non-unanimous juries.
