It was circa 1954 when I was introduced to photography. Probably earlier than that. I do remember taking photos with my mother's Kodak. Likely a Kodak Duaflex 620 Roll Camera. It was a great place to begin my photographic journey, I actually started out where Ansel Adams could have been shooting that day. Yes, Yosemite National Park. Of course, at that time I had no idea he was making photographic history. I don't know if any of the photos I took then still exist. Some prints from Mom's camera certainly do exist. Some may actually may have been taken by me. A few years later I had saved my nickles, dimes and quarters up by placing the coins in a toy cash register. The drawer wouldn't open until it reached $10. I saved to buy my own camera, a Tower Model 7. It took 120 film and the standard print was 6x9cm. And, there were 8 to a roll of 120 film. At first I snapped away with and sent the film to a lab for prints. The prints were returned in about 10 days by US mail. Color was something of the distant future for most people at the time. So, my photos were black and white. The film speed was 50-100 ASA according to my current research but, it seems to me I may have had film with an ASA of 25. The prints I got back were somewhat dependent on my knowledge that came with experience. Needless to say most of the early photos were not the best. That said, some turned out very nice. One I love has a photo of the old arched US-176 bridge, "High Bridge," over the Green River in Henderson County, NC. My Dad's 1949 DeSoto Limo parked on the at the close end along the road. The photo was torn somehow over the years but, it lives on in my mind.
