Some books entertain you. Some make you rage. And then there's Profitable Little Pageant, which somehow made me cheer through an explosive prison break, laugh at Marin's sarcasm... and then ugly cry over a quiet moment between two broken people. 🤧💔

This time, the mission feels different. The target isn't just another name on Jane's list, he's a man who profits from human suffering. Watching Marin and Marc tear his empire apart wasn't just satisfying... it felt deserved.

Can we please talk about Marc? 🥹 He completely stole my heart in this one. The layers Joan peeled back had me feeling every ounce of his grief, and that scene with Marin quietly telling him, "I've got this," absolutely broke me. It wasn't just about revenge anymore, it was about mercy.

And Marin... every novella makes me love her even more. She's lethal, unapologetic, sarcastic as hell, yet somehow has one of the biggest hearts hidden beneath all that darkness. One minute she's casually rewiring a detention facility to explode, the next she's making sure someone else doesn't have to carry the weight of a kill. That contrast is exactly why she's become one of my favourite FMCs.

The action? Pure chaos in the best way. A burning detention camp, detainees fighting for freedom, an airboat escape through the Louisiana swamp, and enough dry humour to stop the story from ever feeling too heavy.

Joan continues to prove that these Quick Kills stories may be novellas, but they pack the emotional punch of a full-length novel.

Now excuse me while I emotionally recover... and prepare myself for whatever Jane throws at Marin next. 😭🖤

Vienna. Waltzes. Assassins. New Year's Eve.

Honestly, what more could a girl ask for? 😍

This time, Marin finds herself hunting a war criminal through glittering ballrooms, holiday celebrations, underground clubs, and the beautifully lit streets of Vienna.

The atmosphere in this book was absolutely stunning. Joan has a way of making a city feel alive, and Vienna became a character all on its own. Between the holiday lights, Strauss, elegant palace balls, and New Year's Eve celebrations, I never wanted to leave.

And then Alessandro showed up. 😮‍💨

The last time Marin saw him, she left him on the Orient Express with his pants around his ankles and a promise she'd "be right back."

You guys...

She did not come back. 😭

Their chemistry is absolute chaos. Flirting, sarcasm, murder, questionable life choices, and enough tension to keep me grinning every time they shared a page.

They end up on a job each, after the same target, awkies... But then just fall in sync with each other amd of course Allesandro let's Marin do her thing... Over and over 🤣

I loved seeing them work together again. Whether dancing through a ballroom or fighting side by side, they move like partners who understand each other far better than either want to admit. 👀 Joan... You're a sneaky one!

And Marin? 😈

Still one of my favourite female characters. The woman carries an emotional-support garotte in her bra and genuinely considers murder an acceptable holiday activity. An icon. 🔪👏

The ending had me smiling, laughing, and immediately wanting the next book because apparently Jane still believes Marin isn't allowed uninterrupted happiness. 😂

🐍📖 Added to my Kindle and moving up the TBR! 📖🐍

I haven't started The Harbinger of a Mockingbird's Fate by Kiara Nandaver yet, but after reading the book overview, I'm already intrigued. 👀

A near-death suspect. A brutal murder.

Detectives chasing leads that only seem to raise more questions.

Throw in criminology, psychological suspense, forensic twists, dark humour, and a hint of romance, and you have my attention.

😈 Book Review 😈

📖 Title: Calculated Little Risk
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Look, after finishing Vicious Little Inheritance, there was absolutely no way I wasn't diving straight into Jane's next adventure. 😍

And honestly? Five stars was never in doubt.

One of my favourite things about these books continues to be the chapter titles. Every chapter is named after one of the lessons Jane's father taught her, and with every page, I understood a little more about why Jane became the woman we meet in Holiday Quick Kills... and why Marin gets tested the way she does. 👀😈

This story follows Jane as she honours a promise her father made before his death, leading her across the world in search of Marc. What follows is danger, secrets, betrayal, and enough action to keep me glued to the pages.

And can we please talk about THAT jump from the tree onto the boat?!

Guuuuurrrrrrrlllllllll. 😳👏😈

No wonder you're the boss.

Marc was another highlight for me. He spends much of the book being underestimated, but there's definitely more to him than meets the eye. I'm rooting for him and really hope he follows through with his Marines plans. 🙌

💬 Favourite Moment:

Jane realising that if this had been one of her father's tests, she would have failed.

That one thought explains so much about her character. No wonder she tests people. No wonder she pushes them. Those lessons weren't suggestions. They became part of who she is.

At this point, I'm starting to think Lord Allen didn't leave Jane an inheritance.

He left her homework. 😝📖🔪

I can't wait to read more.

📖 Title: Vicious Little Inheritance
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

Wow. Jane is the definition of being thrown into the deep end and deciding to drown everyone else instead. 😈🔪

On the very day she was meant to graduate from Oxford and begin her journey into MI6, Jane's entire world is ripped away from her. Most people would crumble under that kind of grief and trauma.

Jane, however, chose violence.

Armed with her father's little black book, a head full of lessons he'd spent years teaching her, and a growing list of questions, she sets out to find answers. Who ordered her parents' deaths? Why? And more importantly... who's going to pay for it?

What I loved most about this origin story was seeing exactly how Jane became the woman we know from the Holiday Quick Kills series. The determination. The intelligence. The complete refusal to back down, even when the odds are stacked against her. It all makes so much sense now.

A special mention has to go to the chapter titles, each one named after a lesson her father taught her. Such a simple touch, but it worked so well and added an extra layer to Jane's journey as she put those lessons into practice.

And can we just take a moment to appreciate that this young woman had barely survived losing her parents before she managed her first two kills, then calmly returned to her father's black book looking for the next lead? 👀😈 If there was ever any doubt about Jane being an absolute badass, consider it thoroughly erased.

"But whoever had ordered my parents’ death had to be somewhere in my father’s little black book. And it didn’t matter how long it took. Even if I had to go through every single name. Even if I had to dismantle every organisation, one by one. They would pay. No matter how long it took. I would finish it."

Also, I know, I know... I was supposed to be continuing with the Holiday Quick Kills series. 😅

But Jane's origin story has been sitting on my Kindle for ages, staring at me menacingly from the corner, whispering, "Read me."

Eventually I accepted defeat.

Fine, Jane. You win. 👀🔪

And now I need the rest of her story immediately.

Grief. Marigolds. Murder. And one assassin determined to make her enemies regret breathing. 🌼🔪

The moment Vera died, I knew this book was going to hurt.

Not because of the death itself, but because of what she meant to Marin.

Vera wasn't just another contact.

She was a friend.

And if you've read this series, you know Marin doesn't exactly hand those titles out freely 😭

What follows is a revenge-fuelled hunt through Mexico City during Día de los Mu***os, complete with masks, marigolds, tequila, questionable life choices, and enough violence to make orange jumpsuits feel like a genuine concern 😌

Then Rafael enters the story.

A priest.

A former cartel interrogator.

A man carrying enough guilt and unresolved rage to fill several confession booths.

Sir... respectfully... what the hell 🔥👀

The chemistry between Rafael and Marin isn't sweet.

It's sharp.

It's dangerous.

It's two people recognising something broken and familiar in each other.

And I ate up every second of it 😮‍💨

The Día de los Mu***os setting was absolutely stunning. The atmosphere felt alive on every page, making Mexico City feel like a character in its own right.

But underneath all the revenge and bloodshed, this story is really about grief.

About loss.

About what happens when business becomes personal.

And trust me...

For Marin, this became VERY personal.

Shattered Little Sugar Skull is the kind of book every person needs when they feel an act of revenge is necessary, but orange isn't their colour, so they choose to live vicariously through Marin and Jane instead 😝🔪

Now excuse me while I dive straight into Wicked Little Waltz because apparently emotional damage is my favourite hobby 😈🖤
