🦪 “A little silt can smother an oyster reef for generations.” – Kenneth Kellum Sr.

Our oysters, shrimp, and fisheries are being buried under preventable dredging mistakes. This isn’t just about seafood — it’s about heritage, livelihoods, and the waters that sustain us.

🔥 How to Stop a Pipeline
Alyssa Portaro thought she’d found paradise on 24 acres in Louisiana, until a 42-inch gas pipeline threatened her home, pond, and wildlife sanctuary.

In the first episode of our second season, .recovery.project,  , and to reveal how communities can fight back against industrial giants and win. From solar-powered barns in pipeline paths to Louisiana’s first Earth Church, this is resistance in action.

🚨 The Smitty’s Supply plant explosion in Roseland, LA rained toxic chemicals on neighborhoods, forced evacuations, and filled the air with smoke officials claim is “safe.” But residents report sore throats, burning eyes, and being able to taste the air. The long-term health risks are impossible to ignore.
This isn’t an accident — it’s the cost of putting profit over people. Communities deserve protection, not poison.
We’re demanding answers and accountability. ⚠️

I am excited to accept a position in the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana's Coastal Leadership Institute 2025-2026. This program is designed to challenge, inspire, and equip us with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as coastal advocates. I look forward to this year-long program, where I will learn how to better serve our communities on the Gulf Coast!

I am so looking forward to deepening my work for the coast of Louisiana. From advocating through Habitat Recovery Project for the Fisherfamily Advisory Council in Cameron, to participating in Louisiana Shrimp Festival, and Climate Culture in New Orleans, I’m grateful to be rounding out my knowledge with this year-long program, where I will learn how to better serve our communities on the Gulf Coast, and thus, our coasts worldwide.

And, of course, spending a day a month with my bud For a Better Bayou, who prompted my application. 😊l
