Louisiana Music Project - Rebirth Brass Band @ Maple Leaf Bar

12 Years ago, we set out to produce a live music show spotlighting musicians, artists, and venues across Louisiana with the intention to bring the excitement and culture of Louisiana to the world. Being native New Orleanians, Rebirth at Maple Leaf Bar was a such staple of music in the city that we wanted to share the story.

We contacted Phil “Tuba Phil” Frazier of Rebirth Brass Band and Hank Staples of Maple Leaf Bar as the kickoff episode and thankfully they agreed. The idea was to pitch this series to Louisiana Tourism with a reach across broadcast networks and YouTube (newer platform at the time) while engaging with in-flight entertainment for surrounding areas.

We gathered all of our production friends to try and put together a show with a big idea, mastered multiple DVDs for distribution/pitching to potential agencies, and produced DVD insert Press Kits… but unfortunately the series lacked funding as we were told by Louisiana tourism that we needed an entire season instead of a single episode.

As my phone reminded me today of the production that we did 12 years ago, I realized that we never released this gem. Outdated in quality (16x9 SD), the story and music still lives true. Thank you, Rebirth Brass Band. Thank you, Maple Leaf Bar. Thank you to everyone who put their time and resources together to create this project... and of course, Thank You New Orleans.

*Rebirth Brass Band would go on to win their first Grammy Award in 2012 (2 years after this production)

The streets of New Orleans are desolate due to the Coronavirus pandemic. We captured an abandoned setting of the iconic New Orleans French Quarter and decided to intercut it with contrasting vibrant footage from various projects over the years. The experience was truly surreal in a hauntingly beautiful way to see the never ending sights and sounds of NOLA become empty sidewalks of silence.

As a city filled with love, fueled by culture, and connected like family, New Orleans will once again have a rebirth after yet another tragedy.
