Out for lunch again 🍽️ today, I’m checking out ’s interview with ! Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of publishing William Greiner’s collection of photography, NEUTRAL GROUND: NEW ORLEANS: 1990–2005. If you haven’t checked out his dreamy picturescapes yet, maybe this interview from The Advocate with Greiner will convince you to grab your own copy and show it off on your coffee table 📺

"After pursuing a teaching career, Crider threw herself once again into writing—but initially in the form of novels, rather than drama. 'I was rejected by a hundred agents,' she says. 'They said my voice was too weak. Finally, I had two novels published—‘Kells’ and ‘Disorder’—after I shifted to a first-person narrative style, which is more like playwriting.' . .

Clearly, patience and persistence are the hallmarks of Amy Crider’s career. She has sought artistic success and recognition as doggedly as any Buddhist devotee pursues spiritual enlightenment. And like enlightenment, success tends to come only when one has done the necessary groundwork. When “Buddha’s Birthday” opens in August, we’ll see whether all the effort Crider has put into her writing over the last couple of decades is finally ready to bear fruit."

Amy Crider's play BUDDHA'S BIRTHDAY opens in August at The Edge Theatre!

If any playwright in town deserves a break right about now, it would be Amy Crider.

While my wife got her hair cut, I went across the mall to a popular children’s clothing store to choose an outfit for a newborn boy. Semantically, it was incorrect though, because the boy wasn’t actually newborn yet.

"If you’re not already familiar with Josh Denslow, you should be. Denslow, author of the story collection Not Everyone is Special and the novel Super Normal, is a gifted chronicler of character-centered fiction that straddles the line between reality and fantasy. You might find a unicorn in one of his stories, but the unicorn is more likely to be in a supermarket or a restaurant than flying over a castle in some magical kingdom. His fiction thrives on exploring the tiny cracks in relationships where things can, and often do, go wrong."
