helped usher me into my destiny of journalism, photography, and the world of multimedia during undergrad at Tennessee State University.
Marshall and I restored the luster and added to the legacy of a prominent Black-owned publication in our adopted city, Atlanta. Some called Marshall the Editor-In-Chief. I called him my brother and college classmate!
I received the call that he passed away on this date five years ago while I was covering the Georgia Legislative Session. After I got through the initial shock, I knew I had to get back to it. Not because I didn’t need to grieve, but because there was work that needed to be done. At that time, we were the most public-facing leaders of The Atlanta Voice.
The legacy of our brotherhood continues to sustain me! There is never a day that goes by where I pause and wonder, “Damn, Marshall would be talking cash s**t about the current state of the world!”
With that in mind, I’ll continue the work he left for me to do!
Thank you, Marshall!
