The top three candidates to become New Orleans next mayor raised more than $1.1 million in combined campaign donations between July 4 and Sept. 1, with state Sen. Royce Duplessis leading the pack, according to new campaign finance reports.

Moreno still leads by a mile in total money raised and is going into the last month before the primary with more than $1.4 million, followed by Duplessis, and then Thomas.

Candidates for New Orleans mayor shared their plans to help preserve and grow the city’s cultural community during an election forum in the French Quarter.

The six candidates were all quick to stress the importance of the city's arts and culture, not only to New Orleans' identity but also to the city's economy, and made specific pitches to the crowd on housing affordability, stream-lining permitting and supporting local cultural organizations.

State Sen. Royce Duplessis released his first television ad, which features his sharpest attack so far on mayoral frontrunner and City Council Vice President Helena Moreno.

While on the campaign trail Duplessis has often criticized the City Council for government disfunction, here he squarely blames Moreno, casting her as an agent of chaos who stirs up drama at City Hall.

As the New Orleans mayoral race heats up, state Sen. Royce Duplessis targets New Orleans City Council Vice President Helena Moreno.
