This Saturday, I’m walking for Daddy. ❤️

Making this video wasn’t easy. I filmed it in the den he loved, wearing the same McIntosh Farms hat he wore to my Louisiana Tech University graduation in 2013.

Daddy—“Little Mac”—lived with Parkinson’s. We lost him in 2018.

On October 3, I’ll participate in my first Louisiana Walks for Parkinson’s at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, carrying his memory with me.

I’m sharing this with caregivers, families living with Parkinson’s, and everyone missing someone they love in mind. My hope is that it helps somebody feel a little less alone.

Daddy, I’ll be carrying you with me every step.

Advance registration closes Thursday, October 1, at midnight.

A good harvest doesn’t always mean a good year, cher. 🌾

Three numbers help tell the story: how much you harvested, what you sold it for, and what it cost to grow.

More bushels help. But a lower selling price or higher expenses can eat up that gain. A farmer can be thankful for a good crop and still be watching every dollar.

The yield monitor tells you the bushels. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell the bank to calm down. 😂

A little farm perspective from Clayton, Louisiana.

What’s one thing about farming you’d like me to explain next?

The road home. 🌾

I took this photo a few years ago along the route near our farm that I take home every day. That storm cloud in the distance caught my attention.

Familiar roads become part of your story, too—the curves, the fields, the views you’d recognize without a single sign.

And in Louisiana, even the clouds know how to make an entrance. 😂

What’s one stretch of road that feels like home to you?

The Bill of Rights has ten amendments. Congress proposed twelve. So what happened to the other two? 📜

On September 25, 1789, Congress proposed twelve constitutional amendments. Ten were ratified in 1791 and became the Bill of Rights.

One proposal about the size of the House of Representatives was never ratified. Another, concerning congressional pay, finally became the Twenty-Seventh Amendment in 1992.

More than 200 years. And I thought waiting on a tractor part took a while, cher. 😂

The takeaway: proposed and ratified are two different things.

Which amendment would you like me to explain in plain English next?

Gross ain’t profit, cher. 🌾

A beautiful crop. A big tractor. A combine unloading grain. From the roadside, it can look like a whole lot of money.

But that combine is a work tool—not an ATM with a grain tank.

Crop sales are revenue. Before you call that profit, you have to account for seed, fertilizer, crop protection, diesel, labor, repairs, insurance, land costs, equipment costs, and interest.

The sunny cotton field and the rainy equipment lot in this video are both part of our farm’s story. One shows the crop people notice. The other helps explain what it takes to produce it.

A good-looking crop doesn’t tell you the bottom line. Neither does an expensive tractor.

I’m sharing a little perspective from Clayton, Louisiana, on the part of farming that’s harder to see from the road.

What’s one farming expense you didn’t realize was part of getting a crop to harvest?

What gets passed down on a family farm? 🌾

These pictures connect the old cotton-harvest days with soybean harvest around Clayton, Louisiana, today.

My grandfather, Big Mac, founded McIntosh Farms. I never got to meet him, but the photographs and stories help me understand the work that came before me.

The equipment has changed. “We’ll be done in a little while” still doesn’t come with a reliable arrival time. 😂

For me, carrying it forward means valuing the people doing the work and making sure everybody gets home safely.

Who taught you about farming—a parent, grandparent, neighbor, or somebody on the crew? What lesson stayed with you?

America’s family farmers got a pretty loud backup band. 🎸🚜

On September 22, 1985, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young helped bring the first Farm Aid concert to Champaign, Illinois. It raised more than $7 million for America’s family farmers.

Working in a family farming tradition here in Clayton, Louisiana, that story hits home. Behind every harvest are people, livelihoods, and years of work.

Of course, around here, an “encore” usually means somebody found another field. 😂

What song belongs on your harvest playlist?

That’s somebody’s family up ahead. 🚜

The cotton-harvest photographs I shared brought out stories about old pickers, cotton trailers, and the people who kept everything moving. Thank y’all for sharing those memories.

Here around Clayton, Louisiana, we’re cutting soybeans—and believe me, nobody’s running a grain cart for the fuel mileage. 😂

During National Farm Safety and Health Week, a little patience is something we can all contribute. Give farm equipment room. Everybody wants to get home.

What harvest story would you pass down to the next generation?

A Sunday pause after a week in the soybean fields. 🚜

Harvest has a way of reminding you how much you depend on other people. Every load represents somebody’s time, effort, and patience.

It also teaches you that “one more load” is more of a philosophy than a reliable estimate. 😂

I’m thankful for the people who keep things moving and the chance to be part of a family farming tradition. Some of the stories worth telling are right here at home.

What’s one thing you’re thankful for this Sunday?
