a portrait of independent journalism in Russia filmed just before and at the start of the invasion of Ukraine.

Playing in two parts, this five hour journey holds your attention every minute as the lives of young journalists,
and the filmmaker herself, are risked in the name of journalistic truth over propaganda.

We recently visited The Stanley Hotel — the iconic site where Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining, right from the balcony in our photo (Room 217, not 237!). 👻

Beyond its eerie legacy, we couldn’t help but notice that the Stanley Film Festival’s logo looks strikingly like our own logo, just rotated. While we’re in the process of updating our branding, the parallel felt like a perfect, if slightly haunted, coincidence.

Some places just leave a mark — on film and beyond. 🎬

We are proud to have finished editing "The Nature of Nature," our film made in collaboration with Laura Heady of the Hudson River Estuary Program and Cornell University, which celebrates the biodiversity, or variety of life, in the unique Hudson River Estuary. The Hudson Valley is only 13% of New York State, but 85% of the state's animal, insect, fish and bird species can be found right here. Biodiversity provides us clean air, water, healthy soil - basically everything we humans need to survive, and whether or not we understand those connections, protecting one means protecting all. Coming to film festivals and theaters this fall! Thanks to photographer Fred McCagg and Naoko Saito for this title sequence. Directed by Laura deNey (), produced by Laura Heady 🌾🦦🎥

What an incredible premiere of Why We Dream at on Friday evening! Celebrating right on the , the evening even included a 100th birthday party for one of the veterans—right on the 81st anniversary of D-Day. The powerful documentary follows a group of centenarian WWII veterans on their pilgrimage to Normandy—capturing stories of courage, sacrifice, and the passage of time. Flicker is extremely proud to have supported this project through post-production and to witness its impact on screen. Congratulations to everyone involved! Grateful to have been part of such a meaningful evening.

We were lucky to work closely with Tony on Parts Unknown, and what you saw on screen was no act. He was exactly that person — raw, brilliant, endlessly curious, and deeply human. He listened. He cared. He led with heart, shining a light on people and places that so often go unseen.

One episode, Under the Tarp, holds a special place for us. But it’s more than an episode — it’s a blend of voices. Ours. Yours. Tony’s. A shared memory, told by the people who traveled the world with him to tell stories that mattered.

We’re especially proud that our editor, Mustafa, was honored with the ACE Eddie Award for his work on the Senegal episode — a testament to the care, craft, and collaboration Tony inspired in everyone around him. You can find this episode & Under the Tarp on HBO Max or by using the link in our bio.

At 100 years old, Dr. Howard Tucker ()—recognized by Guinness as the world’s oldest practicing doctor—offers more than a medical legacy. Through the lens of his grandson, this film captures a rare, intimate look at aging, purpose, and family across generations. Congratulations to the incredible filmmaking team on this well-deserved recognition! 🎬

We hiked up Snake Hill (the highest point in Newburgh!)— which was no easy feat, but well worth it for the amazing views (and even better company) at the top!
