Popping seedlings out of their cells can be tricky. It’s essential to handle stems AND roots carefully when transferring to larger pots or “potting up.” I like to use a fork because it allows roots to be pulled from the cells without damage. Have you tried this?

HOMEMADE CODDLING MOTH TRAP // This homemade trap works for both apple maggots and coddling moths. Just mix 1:1 water with molasses and mix. Hang from any container as long as insects can fly in and out. And, one thing I really like about this solution—it’s doesn’t attract pollinators! Best hung downwind in your tree at blossom set.

Protect your plants from cutworms! Cutworms are a type of caterpillar that can be found in gardens and agricultural fields. They are named cutworms because they cut through the stems of young plants at or just below the soil surface, causing the plants to wilt and eventually die. Cutworms are most active at night and can be difficult to spot during the day. They can cause significant damage to crops and gardens if left unchecked. There are many different species of cutworms, and they can vary in color and size. Follow this simple steps to prevent them from getting to your plants. Gather up toilet paper rolls, toothpicks, sticks, and old labels. Use them to surround your plants at the base in slightly into the ground. This will help keep them away! # # # # # # # # # #

For more free tutorials follow Anya on Instagram at anya_thegarden_fairy In this video ➡️ GROWING DAHLIAS FROM SEEDS. In this video I’m using my own seeds collected last summer. See what kind of flowers will they produce. WHEN TO SOW⬇️ 🧚🏻 Early Spring GERMINATION⬇️ 🧚🏻 Your seeds will germinate within 5- 14 days at temperature 18º C WHAT TO DO WHEN SEEDLINGS APPEAR⬇️ 🧚🏻 Once your seedlings appear, they need to be STORED COOL AT ABOUT 5 ºC 🧚🏻 Providing cooler conditions and maximum light promotes root and not stem growth preventing seedlings from becoming leggy 🧚🏻 Pinch out growing tips when the to encourage your seedlings to branch out and become bushy. 🧚🏻 Dahlias grown from seeds will produce flowers within 3-4 months, which means that if you sow them early in early Spring, they’ll flower the same summer. VERY IMPORTANT INFO⬇️ 🧚🏻 Dahlias grown from seeds will not come true to type, but that shouldn’t stop us from growing them this way. You might create something amazing! INTERESTING ⬇️ 🧚🏻 There are 42 species of dahlias that aren’t hybrids and have been used for breeding to create innumerable amount of hybrids. 🧚🏻 If we’re taken the seeds from those 42 original species, they would come true to type, but seeds taken from hybrids that are available to us are likely to produce plants that will vary in characteristics. 🧚🏻 Having said that it shouldn’t stop us from trying to grow our dahlias from seeds. .

***WHISKEY BARRELS OF ERIGERON KARVINSKIANUS/ CHALLENGING AREAS OF MY GARDEN*** More inspiration on my Insta at anya_thegarden_fairy Great as a Spring project! I just need to explain that that narrow bed outside our house is concrete. There’s a little gap on each end, but the middle section is concrete and this is a south facing area. Sometimes you need to work around things and make the best out of your situation. I’ve been trying to find a simple, cost effective and low maintenance solution for this very challenging area until I came with this idea. I’m not a huge fan of bedding plants in pots. I find them wasteful. I prefer perennials, because they just grow for years, are more cost effective than annuals and I don’t need to worry about them. Win- win! HOW I DOD IT 🧚🏻I sown Erigeron seeds in Spring 🧚🏻 I planted 3 plant in each of the whiskey barrels 🧚🏻 To soften this area visually and to keep it weeds free I propagated Sedum. I divided and I planted it around the whiskey barrels WHERE TO GROW ERIGERON AND SEDUM ALBUM? 🧚🏻 Both plants grow best in well-drained soil in full sun. Perfect little duo! Erigeron karvinskianus is just that right plant! I simply adore it. Sedum album a wonderful plant acting as ground cover. I grew all my plants from seeds collected at my friends garden, which means that I only spent money on my whiskey barrels ( love a whiskey barrel! ) and some peat free compost. On top of the concrete I put a bit of soil and I planted ( also propagated) white flowering sedum album. All very low maintenance and it’s looking good all year round.
