🧠 A major step forward in brain injury research
When someone experiences a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—whether from a fall, accident, or sports injury—health professionals often struggle to consistently describe and classify what’s happening in the brain.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) has just launched a new initiative to change that. Their TBI Classification and Nomenclature Initiative, published in Journal of Neurotrauma, introduces a standardized way to define and categorize acute TBIs.
This new system helps researchers and clinicians speak the same language, improving how we study TBI and how we care for patients in the future.
