Joseph DeSerio, a Vietnam veteran and longtime Suffern resident, was honored with a Quilt of Valor at the Suffern Community Center. The handmade quilt was presented in recognition of his military service during 1967–68 and was crafted by local volunteers. Assemblyman Karl Brabenec attended the ceremony and presented DeSerio with an Assembly citation.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is advocating for the Kay Hagan Tick Reauthorization Act to support research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tick-borne illnesses. New York has seen a sharp rise in Lyme disease cases, increasing from about 2,200 in 2020 to over 22,000 in 2023.
