This August, The Hodge Podge will be celebrating our 15th Anniversary.
During the past 15 years countless talented local and regional performing artists have called us and booked time at our studio and we are grateful and thankful for all of you that have come into our studio and booked time. Thank you all.
But I will never forget the call I got from a particular chap who called a few years back to book time at the studio.
“Hi, my name is John Regan, I would like to speak to someone about renting one of your studios for a few rehearsals for my band.”
I called him back and spoke with him briefly and secured a few dates for him on our calendar and never thought much more of it. The day arrived for his first rehearsal, and I was there to greet him as he walked in. He came across immediately as a true gentleman with a kind demeaner, friendly smile and I found out very quickly that he was also a heartwarming considerate conversationalist who loved to talk and being that I am a talker myself it made for a fun initial conversation while we waited for his bandmates to arrive. Little did I know of the amazing talent in my presence.
After their rehearsal I found out from his drummer Dave Goodrich more about who John was and all the talented people that he had performed with over the course of his long successful career, namely the likes of Peter Frampton and Ace Frehley to name a few but his resume includes so many more famous names and acts. The man was a legend, yet he carried the persona of a normal Joe never once acting like the star that he was. Truly, the most genuine and down to earth Rockstar that I have ever met and probably will ever meet in this lifetime.
Many people who call us feel that it is necessary to toot their own horn as to who they are and what they have done, and not for nothing but these people always gave me the most grief and aggravation aside from their egos having a hard time fitting through my doorways.
But John was not only humble, but he was also one of the nicest souls you will ever meet, and I am glad to have had the chance to meet him, talk to him and call him a friend and I always enjoyed our conversations we had before his rehearsals.
RIP John Regan, you were a one-of-a-kind legend, an amazing bass player and an even more amazing person. You will be missed by anyone and everyone who had the chance to make your acquaintance.
