Cambodia condemns Thailand for using sub-ammunition bombs in border clashes

BREAKING: On July 25, the Cambodian Anti-Mine Control and Victim's Assistance Authority (CMAA) strongly condemned the Thai army for the use of sub-ammunition bombs and demanded that their use be stopped immediately.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Maly Socheata said the Thai army had repeatedly used sub-ammunition bombs against Cambodia in the early morning of July 25. According to M. Socheata, these bombs were used against Cambodian soldiers in Phnom Kmoch and Techo Thamacheat, Preah Vihear province.

This is not the first time the Thai army has used deadly sub-ammunition bombs against Cambodia, in violation of international law.

In 2011, Thailand also admitted to using sub-ammunition bombs during the conflict with Cambodia.

According to the investigation, it was the first use by a country since the 2008 Convention on Sub-Ammunition Weapons entered into force, which has become a binding international instrument.
