Happy Valentine from the Project Synergy Co. team. 💌 For this post, we looked into the past and found some classic authors’ depictions of love. We also looked into the future, by asking ChatGPT to write a poem for us. All illustrations are also images we asked of , featuring versions of love inspired by artista like Picasso, Rothko and Matisse.

Journalist Alexia Rosas () reflects on the work of fashion designer Paul Miniet () through his brand Ocaso.

Alexia justifies: “the mission underlying Paul's intentions with fashion is what really inspired the note. In my opinion, Paul is the epitome of combining his passion for designing with his intention to deliver a product that encapsulates much more than a piece of clothing. Just as writers write stories through words, Paul writes a story in his clothing line, and I think it adds poetic justice-if you will, and write about his story: Ocaso.”

Javier Fuentes León, born and raised in Lima, Peru, is a film director, screenwriter and musician with a full medical degree. In 1994, he radically changed the course of his life and moved to Los Angeles, where he progressively earned a reputation as a disruptive, multi-dynamic media maker. To top it all off - he’s won a Sundance award and multiple nominations. His most recent creations - a Peruvian comedy titled Las Mejores Familias and a personal music album - called on us to ask for his insight in the creative industry.

In what ways is jazz disruptive?

Introducing one of our finalist contributors for Issue III: DESIGN - Hannah Soltani, Iranian writer.

From Iran, Hannah brings a brilliantly constructed analysis of the design of the jazz genre. Through her piece, she aims to create a better understanding of why jazz can be so charmingly unsatisfying, as well as how it can create an incredibly deep connection between the audience and the musicians. To create this, she interviewed Panas Athanatos, a pianist at jazz clubs in New York, and French-Persian producer Parviz, who creates instrumental music by fusing jazz patterns with eclectic genres that allow the listener to surrender to sensation.

We know what Merengue tastes like. But what does it *read* like?

Introducing one of our finalist contributors for Issue III: DESIGN - Itziar Olaechea, a Peruvian graphic designer.

When Itziar was sixteen years old, she designed the cover for a theoretical urban art magazine titled"Gra-fixx". As part of the prompt, she had to
do research on her hometown, Lima, to create mood boards, sketches and the final version of the cover. Through this work, she found a deep passion for graphic design, and after studying art in Lima, Peru and at the Art Institute of Chicago,
she became a senior in the Visual Communication Department. In this piece, she proposes an identity design for an event centered around urban art, where she created her first typography titled: MERENGUE.

Introducing one of our finalist contributors for Issue III: DESIGN - Punn Chatupanyachotikul. Punn is a contemporary figurative artist from Bangkok, now based in Amsterdam. In “A Guide to Enjoying the Process,” Punn leads us into her recent capsule fashion designs inspired by the people, emotions and atmosphere that surrounds her. She provides insight into her creative brain and the process she goes through when creating art.

How to design a sailing journey, from scratch?

Introducing our finalist contributors for Issue III: DESIGN - The Essle Brothers.

Born in Brazil, Philipp and Alexander Essle grew up engulfed by the sailing world. Having lived on a boat during their late childhood, they dreamed of returning to sea and creating a journey of their own. As they waited to begin their Master’s degree in Rotterdam, they agreed it was the perfect moment to set sail. Through this interview, the Essle Brothers take the word “design” to a different level.

How is an image put together?

Introducing our third finalist contributor for Issue III: DESIGN - Ward van Bemmel, born and raised in The Netherlands.

In “Embracing the Unexpected - Screen Printing meets Animation,” Ward walks us through the process of rendering memories in a psychedelic-like style. To do so, he journeys the reader through describing his screen printed frames and the techniques behind their creation. He uses the subtractive color model: cyan, magenta, yellow and key - to create a TV-static effect.

Ward invites his audience into his own unique experience with design, and makes us feel the nostalgia we didn’t know we had.
