Uplifting conversations about the state of the world, with Neal and Amer

10/30/2025

.yusefsalaam reflects on one of the biggest lessons he’s carried—summed up perfectly by something he heard from

“Strap in and enjoy the ride.”

When you’re in the middle of struggle, that can sound impossible. But Yusef’s journey—from wrongful incarceration to elected official—proves that the path is still the path, even when it looks nothing like what you expected.

If you’re navigating doubt, pressure, or setbacks—this is your reminder:

🌱 Trust the timing. It’s already written.

As we’re only a week away from a pivotal mayoral election in NYC, it felt only appropriate to drop our last episode of the season, with none other than the iconic .yusefsalaam - NYC Councilman, member of the Exonerated Five, and truly, part of the fabric of New York City.

This episode was filled with some incredible wisdom:

““When God shows you where you’re going…
He never shows you the journey.

Because if you saw the journey, you might not go.”

This moment from .yusefsalaam stopped us in our tracks.

A reminder for anyone listening:

🌱 Just because the road is rough doesn’t mean you took the wrong path.

💫 Keep going. You’re being prepared for where you’re meant to be.

👊 What you do, and your decisions, matter. Take the power in your own hands, vote, and make a difference. You might not realize how it falls into the bigger plan…

Doing whatever you dream of can sometimes be an incredibly privileged way to see the world. In white male dominated industries, shocking statistics continue to indicate just how real The Wage Gap Phenomenon Claire Wasserman from Ladies Get Paid talks about.

What can we do to fight back and create change? Acknowledge + discuss the inequalities.

Hosts and at work in studios with as we prep to deliver one hell of a season next month, focused on humanizing some true heroes.

We’re still in awe of some of the conversations we’ve had and what they’ve been open to sharing. Being able to demystify their worlds and understand more about them, it’s helped our own journey in ways we couldn’t imagine.
