A Moment in the Reeds is a 2017 Finnish romantic drama film written and directed by Mikko MΓ€kelΓ€ in his feature directorial debut. It stars Janne Puustinen and Boodi Kabbani. The film had its world premiere at the 2017 BFI London Film Festival as part of the Love strand.

Having moved to Paris for university, Leevi returns to his native Finland for the summer to help his estranged father renovate the family lake house so it can be sold. Tareq, a recent asylum seeker from Syria, has been hired to help with the work, and when Leevi's father has to return to town on business, the two young men establish a connection and spend a few days discovering one another during the Finnish midsummer.

While her long-time boyfriend Billy attempts to cobble together a stable home for Jules, Maggie is frequently absent, battling with the monsters that threaten the secure family life she wants but canβt live. Caught in the wake of her motherβs actions, in the end, Jules is forced to confront whether the American Dream she has been fed is just thatβ¦a dream.
In this not-so-short film by Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Alex Dinelaris, a middle-class family grapples with the distance between the lives they imagined and the lives they are living. "In This, Our Time" is the first film written and directed by one of the authors of Birdman.
