The Tribeca Studio’s COLECTIVO program highlights the talent of Latino filmmakers, aiming to bring an audience to their stories. Founded in collaboration with the Miranda Family Fund and the Hispanic Federation, the fellowship annually selects three emerging filmmaking teams to receive funding, mentorship and the opportunity to premiere an original short film at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Among this year’s recipients is the team behind ‘Villa Encanto,’ a short film about a teenager who, following the death of her mother, “is uprooted from 1960s Spanish Harlem when her musician father takes a gig at a Puerto Rican summer resort in upstate New York. Through music and community, she learns to redefine the meaning of home.” The film was written and directed by Joel Perez, co-written by Sol Marina Crespo, and Produced by Helena Sardinha.
Another recipient of the 2025 COLECTIVO Fellowship is Andrew J. Rodriguez’s ‘El Tiguere’ a short film where “In the face of food insecurity and a harsh legal system in the Bronx, a Dominican immigrant operates his mobile food garden under the radar, determined to rebuild his life and repair his relationship with his estranged son.” The film was produced by Yuki Maekawa-Ledbetter, alongside Executive Producers Elvis Nolasco, Justine Sweetman, Amalia Bradstreet, Matthew D’Amato, and Vincent Lin.
