"Restoring and decorating a house of this scale might seem like quite a daunting task. Lots of people have said to me they would have felt overwhelmed by the number of decisions needing to be taken but, while there were times when the task did feel formidable, working with spaces, reimagining them and breathing life into them is a passion that ignites my imagination and I draw so much energy from that form of creative expression."

"A little more than a stone’s throw from Rittenhouse Square (closer than one might think possible) is a large swath of historic farmland. Two public roads crisscross it, and a moseying, fair-sized tributary divides it up further. Its several undulating and contiguous tracts were put together over the years by successive Philadelphia families, including the Wideners — well-known American aristocrats (if one is allowed to call them that). Now a new family has taken it on, fully committed to conserving the magnificent patchwork. Its name, Erdenheim, or “Earthly Home,” harkens back to its Pennsylvania Dutch progenitors, who christened it."

"As ancient Palermo spreads out from its historic center, the Quattro Canti (Four Corners), toward the villas of La Favorita and the beachside borough of Mondello, the neighborhood of Libertà is situated in the city’s present-day heart. It was here that, in the late nineteenth century, large Art Nouveau townhouses and well-appointed apartment buildings created a new modern city, and it is here that Rosellina and Agostino Randazzo live in a spacious fourth-floor apartment. Compared to the bustling street outside, this is an oasis, and within it the impeccably dressed Rosellina hosts a mixture of Palermo society."

"There’s a special kind of beauty to be found in contrast. That’s certainly the case with this Newport Beach home, where classical proportions and furniture are juxtaposed with a collection of bold, contemporary art.
This is my second project for these clients, who had last remodeled their primary
residence in the 1990s. Since then, their tastes and needs have evolved, and they were ready for a refresh. What hadn’t changed, though, was their preference for classical, traditional style and contemporary art, so they tasked me with creating an updated spin on a classic home."

“This book is my love letter to this big, sprawling family. In its pages, you will find everything from entire rooms swathed in purple to interiors with just a hint of it, and of course purple as it is found in nature. Chromatically, purple is the marriage of blue and red; when it is tinged with pink, the blend is feminine and seductive."

“The house has a wonderful soul. We just had to take away the formality and make it feel a bit younger, sexier, looser,” says Bullard . “They wanted the house to feel very easy-breezy. So, we bleached all the wood, including the floors and the beams. We kind of really lightened and brightened the whole experience. This time, I went with a very calm palette of creams and whites, with pops of blues, sand, and chocolate brown.”

"There are a few outliers, including Stephen Drucker, a former magazine editor — and the editor of this book — who bought his own three-bedroom Marrakesh villa in 2019. “Don’t call any of this ‘Hollywood Regency,’ please,” he implores. “The term has become so devalued and murky.” Woolf, Drucker insists, was about so much more than over-the-top glamour. “His underpinning was neoclassicism. The houses at Marrakesh have the harmony and elegance of Palladian villas.” Drucker’s own decorating inspiration, which Scheerer helped him flesh out, was the Athens apartment of the neoclassical-inclined designer T. H. Robsjohn-Gibbings."

"She wasn’t being hyperbolic — major it was. Villa Venezia sits low-slung on the water, let’s call it the lagoon, with many fanciful and faithful Italianate characteristics (and scale) of the extant Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio houses up and down the island. But this one had been built in 2000 with up-to-date conveniences — and it’s built to last. Decorated by one of the great New York firms and then smartly freshened up by a “new wife” about fifteen years later, there were some good “leavings” to give the new owners a running start."

"The Museo delle Maioliche “Stanze al Genio” is on the piano nobile (principal floor) of the sixteenth-century Palazzo Torre Pirajno in Palermo’s Kalsa district. The museum features a collection of nearly 5,000 Italian maiolica tiles, dating from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries, displayed across nine rooms. The collection, which focuses primarily on tiles from Naples and Sicily, was assembled over thirty years by Pio Mellina and his collaborators, Antonino Perna, Luisa Masi, and Davide Sansone.
This private museum offers a unique glimpse into Italy’s rich ceramic heritage "

"Peter met and became friends with this dear Bostonian family more than thirty years ago. A few years after that, they were ready to trade the challenges of oceanfront living for a tranquil spot along the Indian River Lagoon and, much to young Peter’s surprise, called on him to design it. The long spit of land they purchased came to a point, and in a rather unconventional move, Peter sited the house facing that lush point, rather than the water. Instead, angled, glass-walled wings capture the water views. Formality was preferred, but playfully composed, inspired by the nineteenth-century English homes and gardens of Sir Edwin Lutyens, Gertrude Jekyll, and the like."
