The Amazing Race Season 40: Celebrity Edition potential route (revised and this will be an east-to-west route)
NOTE: The upcoming 40th season per production will be called the Celebrity Edition to feature 14 teams of notable celebrities including at least one notable celebrity. The twist will be called "The Great Equalizer" with 14 celebrity teams of two that every single leg will face an elimination at the end of the leg (sans the final leg). The first team winning in the first 11 legs will have a $25,000 prize for their charity, with $1,000,000 for the winning team and their charity. No non-eliminations or double eliminations will happen like Fork in the Road. It has previously rumored after TAR38 finale that TAR40 would feature teams of celebrities similar to the recent Australian versions, the second Chinese version, and all seasons of Finnish version. It will air in early March 2027 alongside Survivor 52 as regular casting for TAR41 will begin in early January 2027 right after the New Year.

This will be the second consecutive season to have a 5-continent race route following the upcoming TAR39. The two new countries will be visited are Latvia and Slovakia. This is the fourth overall season in six seasons to have a first-time new European country following TAR35, TAR37, and TAR39. India leg has been changed from the intended location in the Middle East due to the ongoing conflict being an alternative location to make safe.
Filming of the 40th Race will begin at the end of September right before the premiere of TAR39 (scheduled to air on September 30, 2026) and will end in late October into a 24-25 day journey. South America hasn't appeared in a regular Race since TAR32 (Note: TAR36 featured the Americas as mostly had routes in South America due to COVID-placed restrictions (the season was filmed in fall 2022 before the aired TAR35 as the original season 35) and use of charter plane by production).
