The Flatiron Building: Finally Bathed in Light
•Historic milestone: After more than 120 years, the Flatiron Building at 175 Fifth Avenue, New York City’s beloved triangular landmark, will be lit from the outside for the first time when it reopens as a luxury condominium. This lighting feature had never been implemented during its long standing history as a commercial property .
•Lighting design: The dynamic LED illumination, crafted by L’Observatoire International, emphasizes the building’s ornate architectural details, from the top five floors beneath the cornice, cascading downward across the facade .
•Preservation approval: The project received approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission, acknowledging both the aesthetic and historical significance of enhancing the building’s nighttime presence .
•Interior and exterior restoration: As part of a broader transformation into condos, over 1,000 windows have been replaced, terra-cotta elements painstakingly restored, and the six-foot cornice rejuvenated. The interiors, designed by Studio Sofield, blend historic elements with modern amenity spaces .
•Opening timeline: The illuminated facade is expected to debut during the completion of the full restoration, anticipated in 2027 .

কতখানি নিতে পারে পালকের ভার,
একদিন ছেড়ে যায় সেও
যে বলে;আমিই একমাত্র আপন তার।

পাখিও পালক ছাড়ে পুরোনো হলে
মানুষও পাখির মতো ছেড়ে যাবার দলে,
কতটুকু মায়া হলে ফেলে যাওয়া দায়
যাব না বলেছে যে-- সেও চলে যায়।
