Ripple's $1B Treasury Acquisition Puts XRP in the Path of $12.5 Trillion in Corporate Payments
Ripple purchased Treasury — now rebranded as Ripple Treasury — for $1 billion, gaining a corporate treasury management platform with connections to 13,000 banks and over 1,000 enterprise clients, including Volvo, Subway, and American Airlines. Combined, those clients handle $12.5 trillion in payments annually. Currently, none of that volume runs through cryptocurrency.
That's the bet: rather than convincing banks to adopt crypto infrastructure, Ripple acquired the infrastructure they already rely on and embedded XRP Ledger rails directly into it. Even a 1% shift of existing payment volume onto the ledger would represent $125 billion in new on-chain activity per year.
The distribution network is in place. The open question is the pace of adoption.
Note that this reads as investment-thesis framing — it presents a best-case scenario without addressing risks like client opt-in rates, regulatory hurdles, or whether enterprises will actually choose XRP rails over existing settlement methods. Worth keeping in mind if you're evaluating it critically.
