Pre-order your 2027 calendar! Water weekend sale! 33% off all orders from Line5calendar.com.

We’re highlighting mothers who lead the work to build healthy and sustainable communities.

Our model for March is Dr. Nichole Keway Biber
Nichole, spirit name Waaban-anang, is a tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Mishiike Dodem (turtle clan), and mother of three. A longtime grassroots activist who focuses on environmental justice as the foundational site of healing, she is a Water Protector, jingle dress dancer, and organic home gardener. Nichole works at Clean Water Action, organizing to Shut Down Line 5, resist data centers, and disrupt corporate corruption. Her primary focus is to uplift and advocate for the restoration of biodiverse habitats needed to welcome our more-than-human relatives back home.

By purchasing a calendar you put more resources to volunteer-led community monitoring efforts.

Come join us as we Paddle for the Future! Sponsored by the Sault Tribe and in solidarity with the Rendezvous in the Straits Pow Wow, this water ceremony and flotilla brings community members together to protect the Great Lakes from industrialization for the next 7 generations, such as the disastrous Line 5 Tunnel.

Feast on traditional foods and enjoy cultural offerings at this multigenerational, multicultural, inclusive gathering where we will stand up for Nibi and Aki. We are asserting our Treaty rights. We must protect this area known as the heart of Turtle Island. Join us and learn about more opportunities to get involved and take action.

We aim to be zero-waste so please bring a feast bundle (plate, utensils, cup) and carpool to the event! Some kayaks and watercraft will be provided. Afterwards, head over to the Pow Wow across the street at 1:00 PM for the Grand Entry.

We can’t wait to see you in the Straits!

We’re working with partners across the state this election season to host trainings where you can learn how to find candidates in person, ask them the questions you care about most, and practice citizen journalism. As part of this bigger campaign, we’re already seeing the issues we care change the narrative and positions of candidates!

Sign up to volunteer and get notified of ways to plug in! Our first training is Thursday, August 8th in Detroit. We will also be hosting a training in Traverse City in late August! When you fill out the form choose Great Lakes Water Protector Network as your organization.

⛑️This weekend is our community medical training! This year we’ve had more interest than ever before, and we’re asking our community to donate and support this and future trainings.

👏Thanks to our partners and for helping us provide world class trainers, food, childcare, transportation and personal medical kits to take home! All of this is totally free for participants!

🤩We’re super excited that this will be our biggest training yet, and that some past participants are stepping into new leadership roles. Please spread the word and consider making a donation.

🎉Fundraiser link and interest form are in our profile!

Repost:

We’re taking the fight against Enbridge’s Line 5 Nationwide on November 18th! You won’t want to miss the opportunity to hear from the folks behind the scenes and on the ground pushing for removal and discontinuation of Enbridge’s Line 5.

We’ll be joined by Whitney Gravelle (President, Bay Mills Indian Community), Debbie Chizewer (Managing Attorney at Earthjustice), Jeff Insko (Author & Professor, Oakland University), Sean McBrearty (Michigan State Director, Clean Water Action) and Dani Lindamood (Campaigns & Communications Director, Water Watchers).

Share with your friends and family from across the country who love midwest summers on the lake and get them ready to take action on this crucial, international issue!

MiCAN is a proud partner of this event alongside: Clean Water Action, Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities, National Wildlife Federation, Oil & Water Don’t Mix, Progress Michigan, Sierra Club Canada, Sierra Club Michigan, Sierra Club Wisconsin, and Water Watchers.
