"See You In the Cosmos" by Jack Cheng is not only a wonderful Middle Grade book, but it was a 2017 Audie Award winner for Best Kids Audiobook. It's especially dear to my heart because my son, Kivlighan, narrated it when he was 12. It's also a multicast (with Brittany Pressley, Michael Crouch, Susan Bennett, Therese Plummer, Pete Larkin, Dan Bittner, Jason Samuel Culp, and Courtney Shaw) but Kiv narrated the bulk of it (roughly 5 1/2 hours...). I was incredibly impressed by his performance.
He was expertly coached by Paula Parker. I even got to sprinkle sound effects throughout, place the voices in their environments, and do some foley. Thanks to Karen DiMattia Dziekonski for giving him this amazing opportunity and for trusting me with the production. It was so much fun. Here's a little behind-the-scenes video of Kiv and Michael Crouch performing a scene.

With CDM❤️NYC, we’re also spotlighting people and projects that we’ve worked with here in our studios. First up is Bryonn Bain. Bryonn is a prison activist, actor, hip hop theater innovator, and spoken word poetry champion.
We recorded Bryonn’s vocals and worked on mixing and post-production for Against the Odds, featured here.

With your help, Covenant House International can continue to provide young people a safe place to sleep, and hope for a brighter tomorrow. For 50 years, Covenant House has opened their doors to young people facing homelessness and survivors of human trafficking, one youth at a time, one day at a time.
We ask that you donate what you can today and share this music video on all your social platforms to help raise awareness of this wonderful organization. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. http://www.tinyurl.com/BroadwayForCovenantHouse

I am heartbroken at the loss of this incredibly kind, talented man. I owe the beauty and sound of my studios to Fran. I reached out to him first in 1998, when all I had was enough to open one room. He started the conversation by offering free advice, and then found a way to fit my budget and kickstart what would become 21 incredible years. I came back to him two more times - in 2004 and in 2017 - to continue expanding and refining my space in the Film Center. What an incredible tragedy this is. The world won't sound the same, and certainly won't look as cool without him in it. My heart goes out to his whole family. 💔
Friends, colleagues, and the rest of the FM Design family—
Doreen Manzella, Sam Manzella, and Missy Manzella here. It’s with the heaviest of hearts that we’re writing this message. Francis passed away suddenly this past Sunday. It was completely unexpected, a routine surgery gone tragically wrong. But Fran was as comfortable as could be and surrounded with love the entire weekend. We all got to say our goodbyes.
We know how deeply loved and respected Fran was among his colleagues, music industry peers, and friends, many of whom feel like family to us. We also know how much joy he derived from music, recording studios, and everyone he befriended through his work. Having a passion like Fran had is a special thing. Being able to turn that passion into a career—and foster so many other music lovers’ careers in the process—is even more special.
His professional accomplishments aside, Fran was the most loving and compassionate brother, father, and husband imaginable. He also cared deeply about social justice. Uplifting marginalized voices and advocating for progressive reform meant the world to him. Instead of donating to us directly, we ask that anyone looking to make a donation in Fran’s name give to Fair Fight (https://fairfight.com/), a Georgia-based advocacy group that fights voter suppression nationwide; Black Visions Collective (https://www.blackvisionsmn.org/), a Minnesota-based group for Black liberation; or Save the Music Foundation (https://www.savethemusic.org/), a nonprofit that ensures every child has access to music education in school.
We know how much of an impact Fran made on everyone he met. We hope you’ll join us in honoring his creativity, his generosity, and of course, his beautiful contributions to the world of music. As Fran would say, “Go race car!”
❤️ Doreen, Sami, and Missy
Dear Friends, Clients and Colleagues,
CDM Studios is reopening incrementally. Because we have two separate entrances, we are able to open our two largest rooms first (ideal for ADR, voice over, podcasts). This ensures that zero contact is required between engineer and talent. The engineer can be in place before the talent arrives and the talent can go directly into the booth from the hallway. All rooms are disinfected between sessions and there is hand sanitizer throughout the rooms. There is signage all around the facility to remind people about wearing masks and social distancing requirements.
While we are all anxious to return to as close to “normal” as possible, our primary concern is with the health and safety of our employees and our clients. We will continue closely monitoring the recommendations of healthcare professionals and the State of New York.
Stay safe,
CDM Studios
CDM Studios is looking to the future and how we can safely resume operations. As soon as the non-essential business closure ban is lifted, CDM Studios will begin to incrementally re-open its rooms.
Currently NYC isn't yet in Phase 1. Phase 1 will begin June 8.
Phase 2 is the phase in which businesses such as CDM Studios can legally reopen:
"Phase Two will allow a wider range of businesses to reopen, including storefront retailers and businesses in the professional services, finance and insurance, administrative support, and real-estate and rental-leasing industries."

Five Reasons to Enjoy the Right Atmosphere...
With the recent expansion, CDM Studios now boasts five state-of-the-art, fully equipped sound stages. Our largest studios are bathed in sunlight, creating an energy-positive ambiance especially through the cold winter months. Some booths are wired with ethernet and 50” LCD screens and can accommodate large multicast recording sessions. Our fully stocked green room is perfect for hosting your talent and guests. We understand the importance of creating the right atmosphere, so the green room includes a private access from entry to sound stage. The expansion project took about four months to complete. The rooms have enjoyed so much new work that my planned office space was big-footed by the addition of the fifth booth. Huge thanks to Francis Manzella and FM Design for helping us create this “next level” studio and second home for our artists and clients. Explore the new space online www.cdmstudios.com and come see us in person!
2020: So Much Newness and Goodness...

Check out our new digs in person and on your devices. www.cdmstudios.com
