🇺🇸 Chrystal Genesis speaks with Alison Brie Alison Brie about The Revisionist, a new drama starring Alison alongside André Holland, Tom Sturridge and Dustin Hoffman. The Revisionist follows novelist Elise Keller, whose search for material leads her to draw on the people closest to her, testing the boundaries between creativity, relationships, fiction and real life.
🇮🇹 Filmmaker Gar O’Rourke’s Gar O’Rourke documentary The Siege of Paradise takes us to Cinque Terre on the Italian Riviera, where a population of 4,000 receives 3.5 million visitors every year. Through local residents and visiting American content creators, the film looks at tourism, cultural identity and what happens to a place when its global popularity overwhelms local life.
🇺🇸 Fifteen years after Miss Representation, filmmaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom Jennifer Siebel Newsom returns with Miss Representation: Rise Up. The documentary examines the backlash against women’s progress and how social media, algorithms and AI are being used to harass and silence them. Jennifer and others discuss pressures facing women and girls in a digital culture hostile to their existence.
🇧🇷 Finally, Frédéric Boyer, Artistic Director at Tribeca, talks to Chrystal about Aly Muritiba’s Aly Muritiba drama, Funk, about Rio de Janeiro’s putaria funk scene which follows Sabrina, a young artist determined to make it as a famous MC. They discuss Aly’s unique route into filmmaking and they zoom out to talk about how national politics impacts the films we get to see in international cinema today.
