“Why MBA? Why NYU Stern?”
- I still remember those business school application questions.
Here’s a good answer to that.
Almost 10 years ago, I was a 1st year MBA student at NYU Stern School of Business, doing endless networking coffee chats with NYU Alumni in the Entertainment Media industry, trying to secure a summer internship. Hem Chander as the 2nd year MBA, gave me a list of alumni from the industry to talk to, and suggested Tammy Henault.
From a cold Linkedin message, Tammy replied and agreed to meet for a coffee chat.
This coffee chat helped guide the direction of my career choices after I left Deloitte Consulting in Shanghai, when I was wandering on different career paths in business school and didn’t know where to land. With the strong alumni network and Stern spirit — Every coffee chat with the alumni and senior MBA students provided clarity and helped build our career path brick by brick, step by step.
Fast forward to today, we both transformed in our career journeys. Tammy became the CMO of National Basketball Association (NBA), and I successfully entered the entertainment media industry after business school and worked at 20th Century Fox/Disney, WarnerMedia, VICE Media.
This always reminds me to be kind, open-minded, try to help and support others when I can — you never know how your small act of kindness may impact someone’s life trajectory.
