Due to slightly rough seas and non-idyllic weather in Paros, we sped our way to Poros - our penultimate stop aboard the National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions - Crossroads of the Ancient World. Today we did a 3-mile hike to the Dana Lighthouse atop a cliff overlooking the waters of the Aegean and mainland Greece from afar, after a short visit to an old Russian navy yard, and a wade in the azure waters afterwards. What a way to cap this learning journey. Tonight we sail back to Lavrios/Athens.

Didyma was our 5th stop aboard National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions - Crossroads of the Ancient World. We visited the Ancient City of Miletus which was once an influential ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, near the mouth of the Maeander River in present day Turkey. We visited remnants of its massive 19,000-seat theater, Roman baths, and the nearby sanctuary and temple of Apollo, which would have been twice the size of the Parthenon, had it been finished.

Kusadasi was our 4th stop aboard the National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions - Crossroads of the Ancient Worlds. Today we opted to tour an Olive Oil Museum and Farm instead of the famous Ancient City of Ephesus ruins and archaeological site, having been there already twice. The experience did not disappoint as we got to learn the technological and cultural evolution of the olive press. Türkiye is one of the main producers of olive oil in the world as well
as hazelnuts, raisins, apricots given its rich soil and climate. We then enjoyed a hearty lunch at the farm with traditional Mediterranean food. The early afternoon treated us to a tour of a carpet weaving school plus a religious celebration with local performers from the Whirling Dervishes. A packed day.

Samos was just right today - not too windy like Delos and not too hot and humid like Patmos. Our third stop in our National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions - Crossroads of the Ancient World, Samos is deemed to be the birthplace of Hera , the wife of Zeus. We went inside an ancient aqueduct that was built through a mountain to protect the water supply from invaders. We then visited archaeological museums that showcased votives in marble, wood, and bronze.

Hot and humid but breezy at Patmos - our second stop with National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions - Crossroads of the Ancient World. Patmos is a destination for pilgrims and known as the place of exile of St. John the Theologian. The Cave of the Apocalypse is believed to be where John received his visions that inspired the Book of Revelation. The Monastery of St. John - a fortress-like structure houses ancient religious artifacts and sits at the town Chora - a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its quaint white houses overlooking the Aegean Sea.
