Looking for ideas on OSB floors that have some flaking due to getting wet from snow. We're getting ready to start installing our tubing for our radiant heat system. We've got quite a bit of flaking on the OSB flooring and I'm looking for suggestions on getting most of the loose flakes off. I'm not sure exactly how crazy we need to get and making it lot smoother. We're going to be pouring gypcrete and the company doing the pour is going to seal the floor prior to pouring the gypcrete. In order to get a good Bond, we need to have most of the flaking gone. My husband wants to use the metal floor scraper. I think that's too severe and it will make things worse. Anyone out there deal with this before? See less

This guy wants to know at least a range of repair costs.

I'm seeing quite a bit here and am guessing that I'm also repairing some framing and spending some time drying/mold remediation.

When I mentioned this is a 4 figure job, they replied "that seems kind of high from what I see online".

I can't imagine this is anything less than $1500 after opening up the wall.

What are y'all's thoughts?

Somebody please give me honest feedback because I genuinely don’t know if this project is progressing normally for the amount of money involved. We’re roughly $88,000 into this custom home build and the framing and timber work are finally up, but now I’m standing here staring at exposed beams, open walls, suspended insulation, scaffolding running through the middle of the room, unfinished concrete features, and construction materials everywhere. The contractor keeps telling me “this is one of the most important structural stages” and says everything looks excellent so far, but as a homeowner it’s hard not to panic seeing so much still unfinished after this much money has already been spent. I will admit the vaulted ceilings and timber framing look incredible, but at the same time the entire place currently resembles a luxury cabin being assembled inside a warehouse 😭 For the builders and homeowners who’ve gone through custom builds… does this look like solid progress for this stage, or would you also be nervous about the timeline and budget?

Somebody please help me understand if this framing stage looks normal because I genuinely don’t know enough about construction to tell anymore. We’ve spent around $21,500 so far on this home addition and today the framing crew got the walls up, but now I’m staring at temporary braces, exposed studs, uneven gravel around the slab, cords and tools everywhere, and a structure that still feels surprisingly unfinished for how much money has already gone into it. The contractor told me “framing always looks rough before the exterior goes on” and assured me everything is level and engineered correctly, but visually it just feels chaotic to me. I guess I expected it to look more solid at this point instead of resembling a giant wooden outline of a room. The whole thing honestly looks like one of those DIY projects that starts with confidence and slowly turns into a stress-induced group effort 😭 For the builders and homeowners in here… does this stage look pretty standard or should I be asking more questions before they continue?

I am honestly at the point where this remodel is making me question every financial decision I’ve ever made 😭 We already spent almost $17,000 on this hallway and bathroom project and now the contractor disappeared for almost a week, leaving me with half-finished drywall, exposed wiring, plastic all over the floors, random tools everywhere, and a ceiling that literally looks like somebody clawed their way through it. They told me “all it needs now is finishing work” like this is some quick weekend touch-up project, but to me this looks like an entire season of HGTV stress packed into one narrow hallway. The drywall seams are everywhere, parts of the wall are still completely open, and the lighting hanging from the ceiling makes this place feel like an interrogation room. At this point I genuinely don’t even know what a fair price would be to finish this because I already feel financially traumatized. What would you guys charge to finish this? Am I crazy for thinking this still looks VERY far from done?

Somebody please help me understand if this level of damage is normal after a ceiling leak because I honestly don’t even know where to start anymore. We already spent around $11,200 between plumbing inspections and water mitigation, and once they opened the ceiling they found soaked wood, damaged pipes, rotted framing, and what looks like years of water damage hidden above the living room. Now there’s a giant hole in the ceiling, debris everywhere, buckets on the floor, and exposed plumbing hanging overhead. The contractor told us “it always looks worse once we open it up” and said the repairs are “totally manageable,” but standing underneath this feels terrifying as a homeowner. The whole thing honestly looks like one of those disaster restoration commercials before they bring in dramatic music and slow-motion cleanup shots. For anyone who’s dealt with hidden water damage before… is this considered repairable without completely rebuilding everything, or should we be seriously worried here?

Tell me why I spent $25,000 trying to create a “peaceful backyard oasis” and somehow ended up with what looks like an archaeological dig site under my deck 😭 There are giant muddy trenches everywhere, massive white pipes running through the yard like underground subway tunnels, random tools and bricks scattered around, and enough standing water to attract ducks by next week. The contractor looked me dead in the eye and said “don’t worry, once the landscaping is done you won’t even notice this,” which feels like telling someone not to worry about a kitchen fire because dinner will still be ready eventually. Right now this setup looks less like backyard drainage and more like they’re preparing my property for a Discovery Channel special about ancient plumbing systems. My neighbors are probably convinced I’m secretly building a bunker under the deck at this point. Be honest… would you trust the process here or would you also be stress-Googling “failed drainage installations” at 1AM?

Tell me why I paid nearly $21,000 for a “premium custom deck” and now I’m outside crouched in the dirt studying a support post like I’m investigating a crime scene 😭 The second I saw this Techno Post placement I immediately entered full homeowner paranoia mode. The post looks slightly off-center on the bracket, the framing is halfway done, tools are scattered everywhere, and now my brain has convinced me this entire deck is balancing on hopes and prayers. The contractor confidently told me “that’s how they’re designed,” which somehow sounded exactly like when mechanics say “you’ve still got a little life left in the brakes.” At this point I’ve zoomed into this photo so many times I could probably identify individual wood fibers. My neighbors probably think I’m out here conducting structural engineering research in steel-toe boots. Be honest… does this look perfectly fine and I’ve officially lost my mind, or would this placement bother you too?

Somebody please explain if this is normal during siding and water damage repairs because I genuinely don’t know what I should be expecting anymore. We’ve already spent around $9,800 and after removing the siding they found severe rot underneath near the garage wall. Now there’s exposed black wood, crumbling material around the framing, damaged siding hanging loose, and construction debris covering the driveway. The contractor told me “once moisture gets behind siding this happens all the time” and assured me it’ll all be rebuilt properly, but seeing this much damage exposed on the side of my house has me extremely nervous. I understand repairs can uncover hidden problems, but right now it honestly looks like part of the house is disintegrating. I’m trying to stay calm and trust the process, but I also don’t want to ignore potential red flags. For homeowners who’ve dealt with siding or rot repairs before… does this look like a standard repair situation or should I be more concerned?
