The river roared below the steep cliff as a herd of wildebeests gathered at the edge. Dust swirled into the air while hundreds waited, unsure whether to jump or turn back. Across the river lay fresh grass and safety, but the descent was dangerous.
Among them stood a young wildebeest named Kito. It was Kito's first migration. Looking down, Kito saw other wildebeests slipping and tumbling along the rocky slope. Fear tightened every muscle.
The older members of the herd began moving. One after another, they leapt, trusting the herd's instinct. Kito hesitated. The cliff seemed impossibly steep. The river looked deeper than ever.
Then Kito heard a familiar call from below. An older wildebeest had made it safely and was urging the rest to follow. Taking a deep breath, Kito stepped forward.
The ground crumbled beneath Kito's hooves. For a moment, Kito felt weightless. Dust exploded into the air as Kito slid down the slope. Stones rolled past. The river rushed closer and closer.
Just when it seemed impossible to stay upright, Kito found firm ground. With one final bound, Kito splashed into the water and crossed to the other side.
When Kito climbed the opposite bank, the fear was gone. Looking back, Kito realised something important: courage was not the absence of fear. Courage was moving forward despite it.
As the sun set over the savannah, the herd continued its journey, and Kito took the next steps with confidence, ready for whatever challenges lay ahead.
Moral: The greatest rewards often wait on the other side of the leaps we are afraid to take.
