Do Y’all Remember: Jamal Mashburn 🏀 | A Modern Mismatch!

Yerrr! In this segment of Do Y’all Remember, we are throwing it back to one of the smoothest, most versatile scorers of his era: Jamal Mashburn.

Standing at 6’8”, “Monster Mash” was doing the positionless point-forward thing long before it was the standard. He could handle the rock, create his own shot off the dribble, and facilitate the offense perfectly.

Over his 11-year career playing for the Mavericks, Heat, and Hornets, he put up incredibly consistent numbers:
• 19.1 Points Per Game
• 5.4 Rebounds Per Game
• 4.0 Assists Per Game
• All-NBA Third Team (2003)

How good would Jamal Mashburn be in today’s space-and-pace NBA? In a league built entirely on versatile, scoring wings who can run the floor, does Mashburn become a perennial All-NBA player?

🏀 Do Y’all Remember: Shareef Abdur-Rahim? 🏀

Before the NBA was filled with skilled scoring forwards who could handle the ball and create their own shot… there was Shareef Abdur-Rahim.

📍 Career Averages:
🏀 18.1 PPG
đź’Ş 7.5 RPG
🎯 2.5 APG
🔥 47.2% FG | 28.9% 3PT | 81.0% FT

The No. 3 overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft entered the league with enormous expectations after a standout freshman season at California. During his 13-year NBA career, Shareef Abdur-Rahim played for the Vancouver Grizzlies, Hawks, Trail Blazers, and Kings, earning one NBA All-Star selection.

Standing 6’9”, “Reef” was one of the most polished offensive forwards of his era. He could score on the block, knock down the mid-range jumper, attack off the dribble, and consistently rebound at a high level. He averaged over 20 points per game in six different seasons, but because he spent much of his prime on struggling teams, his game often gets overlooked by today’s fans.

🤔 The Question:

If Shareef Abdur-Rahim played in today’s NBA, would he finally get the recognition he deserved?

Would teams use him more as a point forward?
Would his versatile offensive game make him an All-Star more than once?
Or is he remembered exactly how he should be?

🏀 Do Y’all Remember: Keith Van Horn 🏀

Before the stretch four became one of the most valuable players in basketball… there was Keith Van Horn.

📍 Career Averages:
🏀 16.0 PPG
đź’Ş 6.8 RPG
🎯 1.7 APG
🔥 43.5% FG | 36.1% 3PT | 80.6% FT

The No. 2 overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft came into the league as one of the most hyped college stars in the country. During his 11-year NBA career, Keith Van Horn played for the Nets, 76ers, Knicks, Bucks, and Mavericks.

At 6’10”, he could score from all three levels, knock down threes, rebound, and stretch the floor before that became the blueprint for modern power forwards. He even helped New Jersey in 2002 and Dallas reach the 2006 NBA Finals.

🤔 The Question:

If Keith Van Horn played in today’s NBA, would he be even better?

Would he be an All-Star?
Would he average 20+ points?
Or is he remembered exactly how he should be?
