Multi-hyphenated star Billy Porter has written a new memoir, entitled “Unprotected.” It is replete with an honest look into his journey to stardom, colored by the pain and struggles of his young life, where he was made to feel inadequate, too gay, too femme, too much, with no protection. Muva tells all and comes out to slay, bitche$. Check out the link in bio to read our review of “Unprotected.”

Dave Chappelle, considered by many the best contemporary stand-up comedian, launched a series of senseless attacks against the trans community in his latest Netflix special, "The Closer." Although his performance demonstrated mastery of the craft in his signature style of interwoven narratives that culminate in heady food for thought, he took aim against the trans community to explain his prior anti-trans statements, only to make matters worse—perhaps, deliberately so. We spoke with Lee Pierce, an intersex, non-binary stand-up comedy critic and professor of rhetoric and communication at SUNY Geneseo to get their assessment of the special and to contextualize the raging debate about whether cancel culture is killing comedy. Check out our interview with Pierce at the link in bio.

There are few things Americans love more than the story of impossible success and seeing it crash and burn. Anderson Cooper and Katherine Howe have written an intriguing and enlightening account of one of the best examples--the Vanderbilt family, of which Cooper is apart. It’s filled with impressive detail, is superbly crafted and equipped with wonderment, scandal and all the bells and whistles for the vo**ur or the history buff. Check out our review of “Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty” out today.

We celebrate a month of Pride to commemorate our right to exist, to live a dignified life, to achieve equality in its many forms and to express ourselves openly. This is not point of negotiation. It is just a starting point.

Happy Pride to you and yours!

Gay advice columnist, John Paul Brammer, shares life lessons in his new memoir, “¡Hola Papi!” where he discusses the formulation of his evolving identity and sense of self…and how to come out at a Walmart parking lot, of all things. An unlikely source of advice, Brammer is but a few of the “elder gays” doling out wisdom in a column that began as a parody of advice columns. Check out the review by visiting our page.
