Fifteen miles a day? Bro, some people drive that just getting the kids to school.

That’s what makes this take ridiculous.

Yeah, if you barely drive, doubling gas from $3 to $6 might only cost you another $50-ish a month.

But real life isn’t one person driving 15 miles a day in a 25 MPG sedan.

Plenty of families have two commuters. Longer drives. Trucks. SUVs. Kids in sports. School pickup. Grocery runs. Doctor appointments. LIFE.

Run the same math on 50 miles a day and suddenly that “not crippling” increase looks a whole lot different.

The math isn’t the problem.

Pretending the example represents normal American driving is.

Well… that is technically one way to explain tax-free retirement growth.

Definitely not the version I used with clients when I was a financial planner. 😂

But buried inside that completely unhinged explanation is the reason I’ve always liked Roth IRAs so much.

You contribute money that’s already been taxed.

That money can grow for decades.

And if you follow the rules, qualified withdrawals in retirement are tax-free.

That last part is HUGE.

Because if you start young and give compounding enough time, you’re not just protecting your original contributions from future taxes. You’re potentially protecting YEARS of growth too.

Now, do I think you should live like a broke college student for 50 years and never enjoy your money?

No.

That’s stupid.

But consistently putting money into a Roth IRA while still actually living your life?

That’s one of the most boring financial moves you can make.

And boring can work REALLY well.

• Can take a vacation and not bring your laptop “just in case”
• Can take a weekend off without guilt or fear of falling behind

Elon Musk is worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Yet he is sleeping in an Airstream trailer in Memphis while staying close to one of his biggest AI projects.

And this is not the first time he has chosen work over comfort.

In the 1990s, while building Zip2, he slept in the office for six months and showered at the YMCA.

After Zip2 was sold for $22 million, he reportedly went back to sleeping under his desk while building X.

Years later, when Tesla was having trouble making enough cars, he slept at the factory.

After buying Twitter, he also slept at the company’s office.

Now he is doing something similar again. But this time, his bed is inside a trailer.

But there is something else to understand.

Musk has owned expensive homes before, including a $17 million mansion in Bel Air.

He has also sold many of his homes and moved into much simpler places.

So this is not about what he can afford.

It is about what he chooses to stay close to.

Elon Musk have enough money to live almost anywhere, but still choose to stay close to the things that give his life meaning.
