HOW DO YOU FIX A BROKEN HEART? Dick’s Cut Rate Hardware, a institution at Nine Gold Street is likely to close soon, a casualty of turbulent market dynamics in local real estate.

Crammed with just about anything one could ever need, its skinny aisles are overflowing with electrical supplies, tools, building materials, plumbing supplies, lights, paint, garden products, housewares, and cleaning products. Keys are made and advice is freely dispensed.

“I am heartbroken,” says owner Shaul Yamin. Us too. Read the rest at the link in our bio.

GOLD DUST. Mayor Adams has tapped GFP Real Estate to develop a massive residential property at 100 Gold Street, (rendered above in, well, gold), one expected to contain more than 3,700 new homes, of which 25% are slated to be affordable units.

The designation of GFP has drawn criticism based on that firm’s contributions to the Mayor’s election campaigns.

But almost no acknowledgement has been given to the contrast between the City’s terms for 100 Gold Street and a 2023 promise that the Adams administration would push for developments in containing at least 70% affordability. Local leaders call it a huge missed opportunity.

‘Outrageous Admission of a Decades-Long Cover-Up’

In today’s Broadsheet Daily, read about the fury that greeted the City’s recent ‘discovery’ of 68 boxes of September 11-related documents.

Downtown leader Mariama James (pictured) said, “For 24 years, the City denied the truth, forcing our community to fight for every dollar of healthcare, every acknowledgement of illness.”

As the City’s Department of Environmental Protection rolls out a new app, NYCNoise – which will allow residents across the city to measure decibel levels and document noise hotspots, and will help DEP target enforcement – Lower Manhattan residents may have reason to invest in a first-rate pair of earplugs.
