Thanks for letting me in to this group. I believe this griddle is over 120 years old (it was my great grandmother's). I still use it for burgers and hoe cakes. Thought this group might appreciate it.

Made an apple pie for tonight's dessert. 6 cups thinly sliced apples. I used granny smith. 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoon flour, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Preheat oven to 425. Combine ingredients. Add bottom pie crust to your pie tin. Let crust hang over edges. Spoon into your pie tin. Add 4 pats of butter. Cover with top crust. Pinch the two crusts together. Flute your edges and cut suits in top crust. Bake 425 degrees for 15 minutes. Lower your temp to 350 degrees and bake another 35 to 40 minutes. Watch so your edges don't brown too much. If needed cover edges with foil.

Even though my mental health took a nosedive this year, I'm starting to see the way out. I'm cooking more, I'm trying to keep a cleaner home. It wasn't filthy, just messy. I'm trying to cut back on drinking, being kinder, being less angry.
I made this northern bean soup with ham hocks today and it turned out so delicious. It's great to have healthy, homemade food.
It really was just 1 lb northern beans, 2 ham hocks, 1 leek, 1/2 white onion, 3-4 celery stalks, 4-6 cups water, chicken bullion to taste, dill/white pepper, nutmeg, salt to taste.
I presoaked the beans for about an hour, chopped all veggies and dumped everything into my Instant Pot. I originally wanted to slow cook but things didn't turn out right. Pressure cooked for 1.5 hours, shredded the ham hocks abd tossed the bones, returned the meat and mixed.
Served with jiffy corn muffins.

51 years later, a young bride's wish comes true...

In 1973, I was engaged and planning our wedding for June 1974.

I was 18 years old.

In those days, we "registered" for household items needed to begin married life.

My mom told me what to register for, things like a toaster, bed sheets, an ironing board etc., lol!

My fiance and I went to a locally-owned department store called Weises, (later bought out by Bergners, then Boston)

An inpatient store clerk followed us around suggesting China patterns, and such, writing on a list the things we had chosen.

When we arrived at the kitchen department she suggested an expensive brand of pots and pans.

As soon as I saw them .... I loved them!

They looked modern, not like my moms old "club aluminum "😅.

But they were pricey, and didn't come in a set.

Each pan was sold individually, but I registered for them anyway.

At my bridal shower, mostly young girls like me attended, and couldn't afford much, I didn't receive any of my pots or pans.

At the time, you still brought household gifts as wedding presents and I was hoping to get my "modern pans".

After the wedding and all the gifts were opened (another gone by tradition), one of my Aunts came up and started to apologize for the gift she bought.

Saying she could only buy one pot because the were so expensive, lol, and they were!

That is the only pot I received and I've been so grateful to have it!

It is now 51 years old and the handle has been tighted for the last time!

Look what I bought on fb marketplace!

The whole set for $40.00!

I am beyond thrilled...a young brides dreams do still come true!

Fixed one of my husbands favorite meals tonight and he gave it a thumbs up 👍🏻. And please don’t make my families choice of ketchup on our meatloaf a big debate!! This is just a simple meal that is my family’s favorite. We usually always have green beans, mashed potatoes & rolls on meatloaf night. But I had been wanting some fried okra. So tonight that was my choice and it was delicious. And of course my hubby is already looking forward to supper tomorrow night, because we had meatloaf left over!! So as many of you’ll can imagine tomorrow night we will be having meatloaf sandwiches 😁

My mini pies I made for our coffee in the morning at my senior building. Made apple, blueberry and cherry.
For those who want the recipe here is what I did.....I bought the already pie dough and the cans pie filling. I took a large round mouth cup and used to cut the circles for the pies. I then put the little pie dough in a muffin tin and added the pie filling and baked at 425 degrees for 30 minutes.

I messed up a batch of cookies and wanted to share my experience! Most cookie recipes ask that the butter, egg and sugars are beat together before adding the dry ingredients, but for this cookie recipe that was not the case. For this recipe I needed to mix my sugar and dry ingredients and slowly add room temps butter by small chunks and slowly incorporate the egg. But being on auto pilot I reversed this process. The cookie on the right was from the wrong method, the cookie on the left was the proper method. So if you’re ever questioning what went wrong when it happens take a look at the order you mixed your ingredients, might make a difference! Happy baking 🫶🏻
