Every wave of new technology gets the same reaction: skepticism, until someone commits early and an entire generation of brands ends up built on top of it.

Instagram had that moment. An entire class of fashion brands owes its existence to the founders who stopped waiting and started building.

Agentic commerce is at that same fork right now. Our founder Daria Shapovalova 🧝🏻‍♀️ sat down with WGSN Create Tomorrow podcast to talk about where AI is taking online shopping, and her answer wasn’t speculative.

DRESSX has already run the A/B tests. The conversion data is already in.

The brands treating this like a maybe are the ones about to repeat the exact hesitation that kept a lot of names off the Instagram wave a decade ago. The ones who move now are the ones who get to be the version of tomorrow, instead of catching up to it.

We asked therealreal team a simple question: which part of the shopping experience benefits most from AI. We got two different answers in the same breath.

Rachel pointed to fit. Noelle pointed to discovery, the speed of getting shown the right thing without digging through everything wrong for you. Neither is wrong. They’re just describing two different moments where a shopper gives up: one before they ever click into a product, one right before checkout when they’re not sure it’ll actually fit.

That second moment is expensive. Sizing issues are behind 70% of fashion returns, per McKinsey and Fortune. A shopper can find exactly the right item and still send it back for a reason that has nothing to do with taste.

Virtual try-on sits right at the point where those two answers meet. It doesn’t just solve sizing, it lets a shopper see an item on their own body the second they find it, so discovery and fit happen in the same glance instead of two separate steps.

Brands using DRESSX’s virtual try-on have seen return rates drop by up to 40%.

“It’s a brave new world.” 🌐

We asked Pano Anthos, Founder & Managing Partner at XRC Ventures, who’s benefiting most from AI in fashion right now. His answer: DTC brands, because AI is completely rewriting how people land on a site, browse, and buy.

The numbers make the case. Shoppers who use an AI assistant convert at nearly 4x the rate of those who don’t. Macy’s saw 4.75x more revenue per visit from AI-assisted shoppers. And 69% said they were less likely to return something bought with AI help.

This is one of the perspectives inside our new AI Guide for Fashion E-Commerce Leaders, built with insights from founders and operators on what’s actually driving results in fashion right now.

Our wonderful COO Natalia Modenova () asked Manya Jain () — founder of .nyc, the largest fashion tech summit — if she’d tried virtual try-on and where she sees it going.

Manya had tried DRESSX, and her answer went somewhere interesting: trying on clothes across all bodies is already remarkable. What excites her next is the fluidity — technology that understands personal styling nuances, the way someone hems, pins, wraps, or wears something asymmetrically.

That vision starts with a foundation DRESSX has been building with brands like and : a try-on experience that works across every body type, skin tone, and aesthetic in your customer base. Inclusive representation isn’t a feature — it’s the baseline from which everything more personal becomes possible.

We documented what luxury brands truly require from AI try-on — and where the technology is heading — in our recent intelligence report, covered by

“Will it actually look good on me, or just on the model?”

That’s the question that sits between a shopper and a purchase, and it’s the one that costs fashion brands the most revenue every single day.

That moment of doubt is where purchases stall — and where DRESSX virtual try-on does its most important work. Upload a photo, see the garment on your body, on your silhouette. The uncertainty that used to live between browsing and buying disappears.

What’s true for a $50 dress is even more true for a Victoria Beckham one. The higher the price, the higher the stakes — and the more a shopper needs to see themselves in it before they commit. Our intelligence report found that try-on engagement is highest for items over $1,000, because confidence isn’t optional when the purchase feels significant.

This is what that looks like in practice.

AI try-on, powered by DRESSX, lets you try on the full prom edit on your own photo, keeping fabric, fit and silhouette realistic on your actual body. The decision that used to require a fitting room now happens before the dress is touched.
