I’ve lived in my current place in Central Oregon for 7 years and never bothered to garden because my job was too demanding in the summers. I changed jobs in January and asked my landlady if I could take over her unused and very neglected garden plot this year. I started clearing the space in mid May and planted first veggie starts June 5th. My landlady is so pleased with the transformation that she is having a new roof put on the greenhouse for my use. I am extremely happy with the garden considering I’ve only ever gardened in zone 9 in CA and this is zone 5. Even with the crazy weather this year (frost in late May and at least 3 weeks of 95-110 temps), things are thriving.

My front garden getting a little break from the heat at 5 AM and a much needed drink.

First off we are in Minnesota zone 4
For those of you asking here is what’s in the garden. It’s a kidney shaped roughly 50‘ x 70’
There’s Two different color salvia, 8 different colored peonies black eyed Susan’s, purple coneflowers, sedums, different varieties of hostas, Stella Day lilies,Bearded tongues, prim rose, ajuga,alliums, Annabelle hydrangeas, summer crush hydrangeas, coreopsis, Karl Forrester grasses. 3 Miss Kim Lilacs, Three Wygelias. Coral bells. The tree in front is Burgundy leaf Crabtree of some kind and one in the back is a little leaf linden. 
And everything is in groups throughout the garden in threes or fives. And in the front 10 flats of pink petunias

Someone in this group mentioned roasting tomatoes for sauce. Whoever it was, you are a genius!
No more messy kitchen from straining tomatoes or hours and hours of simmering the puree down to thicken.
I use this method for pasta sauce, pizza sauce or just plain tomato sauce.
Method:
Wash and then quarter the tomatoes with the top core removed. Put them on a cookie sheet skin side up. Bake at 425 for 30-45 min. When skins are peeling and dark remove from oven. Then puree it in batches in the blender, seeds and skin.
Next put the puree in a roasting pan(or crockpot or stove top); add lemon juice, salt and spices and let it cook down to the desired thickness.
I made pizza sauce this morning and wanted it really thick so it cooked for a few hours.
The recipe I used is the one from the Ball Book for Pizza Sauce.
I'm so excited to now have an easy way to use tomatoes 🍅
