Following the vote across our website and Facebook group polls, Ross the Basset Hound advances to the next round in the race for Honorary NYC Dog Mayor, with a final tally of 1,848 votes to 896 votes! Rooster the Wheaten Terrier’s loyal fan base turned out in force but Ross’s cankles waddled him to victory!

Bio: Rooster is a three-year-old Wheaten Terrier living in the greatest city in the world, and he’s not afraid to ruffle a few feathers to prove it. He may look like an ordinary dog, but he’s extraordinary at giving the wheaten greetin’, the biggest hello you’ll ever receive, no clucking around.

Nicknamed the “poor man’s dog” in 18th-century Ireland, the Wheaten was a farmer’s cheap, all-purpose answer to the gentry’s fancy dogs, built to herd, guard, and hunt vermin. Rooster is tapping into that ancestral resilience for change: free doggy daycare & healthcare to cut monthly costs, no more glass on our streets so paws stay safe, doggy water fountains + treat stations on every block so no dogs go thirsty or hungry, and p**p bags on every corner (you’re welcome, humans).
