10 years of my imperfect vegan journey. 🌱
Ten years ago, I picked up Skinny Bitch, and it changed the way I viewed food and how I nourished my body.
At the time, I was learning about holistic living, healing from childhood trauma and breaking unhealthy patterns I had witnessed in my family. I wanted something different for myself and I wanted to be part of the change.
That same year, I dreamed up Black Rican Vegan while running my meal-prep business, Prepped to Go, from my Bronx apartment. I prepared and delivered healthy meals to help people eat well throughout the week.
Looking back, I’ve been on this food journey for a decade—using the gifts God gave me and my love for food to nourish, serve and bring healing to others. I’m still learning how to create healthier, balanced meals without losing the flavor, culture and soul that make my food mine.
Growing up in the Bronx, I didn’t see many healthy options around me. That absence planted the seed for Black Rican Vegan: something rooted in my culture that could help transform my community.
Since then, I’ve written a cookbook, toured with my food, served thousands of people and entered rooms I never imagined I’d be in, all because one woman started in her Bronx apartment.
To everyone who has supported me, especially my Prepped to Go day ones: thank you for believing in me and allowing me to feed you all these years. I appreciate you more than you know.
This is only the beginning. Here’s to 10 years of growth, purpose, service and an beautifully imperfect vegan journey. I love y’all. 🌱🖤
