Happy Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

We stand on the shoulders of giants. The ones who marched, organized, wrote, loved, and refused to disappear so that we could live more freely. Their names deserve to be said out loud: James Baldwin. Audre Lorde. Bayard Rustin. Marsha P. Johnson. Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. Stormé DeLarverie. And so many more whose names we carry with us every single day.
This month is theirs. And it’s yours too.

Black trans folks have always shaped culture, movement, and history, often without recognition and too often without protection. Today we celebrate that impact and hold space for all that is still unfolding.

“Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.” — Fannie Lou Hamer

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the passing of one of the most powerful voices of the Civil Rights Movement. Born to Mississippi sharecroppers, rose to become a fearless advocate for voting rights, dignity, and the fundamental promise of democracy.

Though she passed away on March 14, 1977, at age 59 in Mound Bayou, her legacy continues to guide the ongoing struggle for freedom. Despite permanent injuries from a brutal 1963 jailhouse beating, Hamer never stopped organizing, speaking truth to power, and demanding that America live up to its ideals.

Her life and political vision are explored in Chapter 5 of by Jenn M. Jackson, which reflects on how Black women like Hamer reshaped the meaning of democracy through courage, collective care, and an unwavering belief that liberation must belong to everyone.

Remembering Hamer invites us to reflect not only on her sacrifice, but on the enduring lessons Black women have offered about justice, freedom, and what it truly means to build a more equitable world.

Celebrating International Women’s Day and the enduring legacy of Black women who have shaped movements, communities, and history.

Black women taught us how to organize, how to speak truth to power, and how to imagine a more just world. From the fearless activism of Angela Davis to the powerful words of Audre Lorde and the groundbreaking leadership of Shirley Chisholm, their courage continues to inspire generations.

Today we honor their brilliance, resilience, and the countless Black women who continue to lead, create, and transform the world.
